Why are they doing this???? Potty Habits I have a 14 mth old male and a 22mth old female. Joey the male has been house and pee pad trained since he was about 4mts old with no problems until the puppies came along, then he started spraying, I use belly bands during the day. My female Cabella I got when she was about 13mths old and she wasn't housebroken, we have made alot of progress, she was very good at going outside on a leash and was doing well with the pee pad. She had a littler of puppies Dec 5th and since we have placed the puppies it's like our entire den, kitchen and hallway has become an open bathroom. It's mostly Joey, he hikes any and everywhere and now Cabella is just squating anywhere..... what is going on. Joey had worms in his stools Sunday and I went to vets and got wormer for him and Cabella Monday. He is to be nutered Friday. Does anyone have anysuggestions??? I spoke to the vet Monday and she said anything that upsets the schedule can cause these things to happen. I have been laid off and started back to work about 2.5 weeks ago and they close down his office so I have been off for the last week again and just worked on Monday and off until next Monday. Could this cause some of this type of behavior??? Any ideas will be appreciated.....Sharon Oh yea, Joey peed on the arm of my couch, any ideas on the best way to clean it as it reeks right now!!!!!

I'm not an expert by any means, but sounds like your Joey is marking. When you catch him, clap your hands and give him a quick "no." I stayed in a hotel recently with my boy who has never marked inside and I saw him lift his leg at a wall -- he didn't pee when I gave him a sharp no. Haven't had any problems since. Make sure you praise Joey and your girl when they potty in the correct place, either on the pad or outside. Never ever stop praising. Hopefully some of the breeders can give you more advice or information about the effect puppies have on behavior of the adults. As for your couch, test a spot with a solution of white vinegar and hot water. A steam upholstery cleaner would probably be best.

Thank you for your response, When I was going to the bathroom, I saw two spots on the pee pad, so I claped and shouted good boy and girl and followed with a treat. This is what I started doing with Cabella when I first got her. An hour later we went outside and then when we came in, I put them back in the crate. I thought perhaps I need to take back over as pack leader and letting them earn their freedom to roam until we get this back under control. I just felt so bad for Cabella after she gave birth and done so well with the puppies and it seemed to take FOREVER for her system to get back to normal that I didn't want to crate her, so this situation is more my fault than anything. Thanks for the tip on the vinegar, I hadn't thought of that and I do have a new bissel carpet cleaner that has the attachment. I am getting it now.....Wish me luck..The couch isn't a year old......Sharon
