| New To Yorkie Talk and I need some guidance Happy New Year To Everyone! I am a newbie to YT and newbie to Yorkies. It took me two years of reading and reach before I finally decided to become a Yorkie Mommee. I have had Mz. Arabella Lilliana for 5 months. She is my furbaby and is very spoiled needless to say. This is our second furbaby, we also have a rescued Greyhound. It is a sight to see when we go for walks. I have already learned a lot from reading past threads on my Bella's behaviors. We have two main issues with her, seperation anxiety from mommee and potty training, we are working on both. Anybody have any suggestion on the seperation anxiety? She will hide my shoes and socks. She has now graduated to running off with my work clothes as I am changing. I give her credit she knows I won't go to work naked.

| Awww, what a goregous name! She is a very pretty girly! For potty training (my pup is 17 weeks) we used puppy pads from day one and he took to them instantly. In the month we had him I can say he is pretty much pad trained (except for maybe 2 accidents this week). As for seperation anxiety am not exactly sure how to help. Although I was watching "Its me or the dog" on animal planet and a little pomeranian had this problem. She suggested the owners change the way in which they do things. So instead of going straight out the door, she suggested reading a magazine then going straight out the door. So glad you got your baby and I'd love to swap baby experiences xD Cody and Arabelle sound so much alike. Inbox is always open! |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Welcome to YT Maybe you can try to limit her space when you are away. Playpen - single room - with peepads - this can help with the toilet training. Beyond taking your shoes/socks - does she exhibit any other separation anxiety behaviour? Whining, barking, crying, for a long time? Razz loves to take socks n shoes but he does it all the time. lol

| Thank for the tips Part of the problem with her potty training is her co-care givers who feel she should know what to do. I'm working on them, as they are harder to train then Bella. It has gotten worse since the snow is on the ground. I am going to try the gated area with the pads. I do agree she has too much free space to use as her personal toilet. The separation anxiety is just mainly trying to prevent me from leaving. The normal routine in the morning is for us to spend about two hours just playing and lounging around. Then I hit the shower, which she feels that she must watch me....very strange but it makes her happy. She takes off with the shoes, socks or work clothes as I am pulling them out. I didn't realize how quick these little short legged babies are. Right before I leave I pick her up for some last minute cuddle time and tell her I will be back. I am told that she will sit at the window and whine for awhile. No barking or anything else. Mommee guilt starting. She is never left alone but I am her number one and everyone knows it too.

| I have had my baby for 6 months and she still isn't potty trained! She and my pug always take my clothes, especially my underwear, and run away from me. It's hard but just try to dedicate moer time in training her. I am on winter break and my yorkie is already going potty more outside than inside b/c I have had more time to spend on this issue.

| She has a BIG personality. When the Greyhound goes outside, Bella will decide when she has been out there to long. She will stand at the door and give a little whimper. I will tell her "Go tell that big doggie to get in the house", she will run to the stairs of the deck and give the big doggie what for. The Greyhound always comes in the house. It is so funny cause the Greyhound looks at like what part of retired don't you understand.

| Hi and welcome to YT. Your babies sound precious. As for the seperation anxiety, what I've done is leave for a minute, come back in-several times. I then would gradually increase the time that I "left" and before I come back in. Try doing this several times a day over several days. After a while, she will realize that you are coming back in and she will eventually go run off and do something else while you are "gone". Good luck.

| Hi there! Welcome to YT! For the seperation anxiety, you might be able to try going in and out of the door. I mean, leave out the door, and come back in within seconds. Then leave again, and increase the time you are gone. Keep increasing time slowly, and Bella will get used to you leaving because she knows you will come back. Won't hurt to try
