| Marking Need Help, Desperately My little boy ( 6months ) has started marking the curtains, coffee table legs of the chairs and couch. He was doing great with the pads but now since the marking started he will hardly use the pads. I am not sure if it because I pads. or what? I was wanting to know about belly bands and how to use them? Do they work? how long do you leave them on is it 24 hours a day? Which is best throw away or washable? and does it smell up your washer when washing them? what do you wash them with? I have also seen on here washable potty pads? how often do you wash them and do they really come clean? I had thought about getting these but wondered what they would do to my washing machine? If the smell would linger in there? Please help this marking is driving me crazy? I thought about getting him fixed because I don't entend on breeding him it just worried about his temperament changing if I get him neutered, he is so wonderful right now.

| They are just like baby diapers..change when they are wet..wash with soap and water and neuter your little boy...it will not change his little personality...nor will it make him fat.

| Agreed. He won't miss them! His bad habits will decline but he'll still be the same baby you love. Also no chance of testicular cancer!

| Pasquale started marking when he was 6 months..i immediately scheduled him to be neutered and his marking almost stopped right after the neuter. (Knock on wood) He hasnt marked in the house since then....BUT he does like to mark when we go out places. I would use a belly band until you can get him neutered..like a diaper i would just check it every couple of hours to see if its wet and then change him. Good luck

| Belly bands and potty pads do not stink up the washer. They wash just like anything else. I do run them through a quick rinse cycle first before washing them and never have any problem. Belly bands will sure save your house until you get the marking under control. I don't know what I would do without them. If you need either belly bands or washable potty pads I make and sell both.

How many would you need for a day? I am getting a boy in a few weeks, he was neutered on Wed. My girl is not spayed yet and hasn't had a heat, I am getting her fixed in January but want to have these incase he gets a little "crazy". I want to get enough that would last me for the day, I don't mind washing them at night to use again the next day. | |

| Get him neutered asap and hopefully the marking will stop. His marking will only get worse as he matures. Getting him neutered later on will probably not help as the behavior will be too established. |

| I agree that if you aren't going to breed him, I'd get him neutered. You are going to have a tough time training him without neutering. But with that being said, I do have an unneutered male myself that does not mark in the house. It took a lot of patience but it can be done - at least for some. And I don't use a belly band as I am planning to show him so I'm growing his coat out and a belly band would ruin his coat. The way I did it was to constantly praise and treat him and say good boy for marking OUTSIDE and I stressed the outside. Then if I caught him marking inside I would say no, no Mickey that's marking INSIDE and then I'd take him outside and encourage him to mark OUTSIDE and if he did, I'd treat him and give lots and lots of praise. But I would think that it will make your life a whole lot easier if he's neutered. |

Anyway, I have washable pee pads and I throw them in the washing machine add a touch of bleach and wash on hot. They haven't ruined my washing machine at all, it does not smell. I had my boy neutered and he still marks up my house I am going to replace my flooring (carpet for laminate) and he is going to have to wear a belly band. He will not be happy.

| Marking is like any other bad behavior. If you don't want him to do it inside your home, teach him it's not an acceptable behavior. Neutering helps because the hormones that drive this behavior are gone. However, if you never correct the behavior, it becomes a bad habit and he'll just keep doing it.

| I had Beamer neutered. It didn't stop him "marking" though. It also didn't change his personality. He is just the same as he was when I got him - very lovable - Mr Personality. I just ordered a belly band after reading YT. Had never heard of them before - but then Beamer is my first male.

| marking I just got a male Yorkie that is 9 weeks and I hope I do not have problems with marking. I have already talked to my vet to have him neutered asap when it is safe for him. I never had a male before, he is so loving I hope he doesn't have to wear belly bands but marking will not due. I don't want him marking other people's home when we are there. |
