Start from Scratch? Hi, I'm wondering if we should start the potty training all over again....? Our almost 5-month old Shorkie is great when it comes to poops. Thankfully, she gives clear signals and we can nearly always get her outside to make her poops, and we let her know how pleased we are. Yet peeing is another story. We're gone all day at work, so we have her in the kitchen (laminate flooring) with baby gates, and a pee pad. Initially she was doing pretty well. She'd have accidents, and we'd clean it up with "nature's miracle". But now she's having more and more accidents, and to me, she's basically turned the kitchen into her peeing-bathroom. It's gotten to the point where she just squats and goes. I think she only peed once or twice on the pad yesterday. All the other times where on the floor infront of the stove, the middle of the floor etc. We are so discouraged. Today we have her in her crate with food and water. Not sure what we'll find when we get home, but we had to contain her as she hasn't proven herself to roam free (in the kitchen). Meanwhile I'm trying to find a mid-day dog walker. Our intent all along was to have her get a little older, and then begin crating her....letting her out at mid day with a dog walker, and then again once we got home, to really start potty training her. Money is kind of an issue so we were trying to wait a little longer, but now it's an "emergency"...we can't have her peeing in the kitchen all day, while we're gone. In the meantime, should we buy a "play pen" and put food water and pee pad inside? I just wonder are we going too far backwards in doing that?

I would definitely get an x pen to make her area smaller. But at 5 months, many of them are still clueless. Patience and persistence. I occasionally have to go bsck to confining my adult tio refresh their memories.

You might also consider putting out more pads. It might cut down on the accidents and she'll get use to the pads again.
