| Petsmart Training Classes??? Has anyone tried the classes at Petsmart?? There is a class starting next Saturday for 8 weeks and they said they would put Lily in with the puppy's since she is so small even though she is a year old?? She barks like crazy and is getting worse every day!! We can't even watch TV!! She is pad trained to go potty and does great being left alone in the house and doesn't chew up anything like that but she needs "socialized" I think!! If I am on the phone or get company it is embarrassing how she carries on!! BARKS terrible!! I probably need "training" as much as she does cause she is very spoiled!! I just hope it is safe there?? I am in AZ now but when I took her to Petsmart in WV once to be groomed when she was about 6 months old they told me "not to bring her back"!!!LOL I did find a groomer somewhere else though and she said she was fine!! Thanks for any input!! Karen |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | We did the same thing, but I found that the puppy class was too slow for Joey, he was pad trained and we didn't any help with that, so we took the tricks training class instead. I actually would rather Joey be around adult dogs than puppies, he got into most of his bad spots with a clumsy puppy. The trainer at Petsmart told me to take Joey to a dog park for socialization, and this was a bad idea. Most of the dogs were fine, but one puppy knocked him over, and all the other dogs trampled him. I found out that that trainer was in training. I would try and find out how much training your trainer has had. Sometimes I think socialization is best accomplished one on one, or a very controlled environment, I feel like what I did traumatized Joey instead of helping him. At least in the trick training class the other dogs were very well behaved. He has about 4 dogs friends now that come to the house to visit, and he's pretty good with other dogs now. We did love the trick training class though, that was a lot of fun, and you are right, they don't really train your dog, they train you to train him.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I think in that case the class could prove very useful to you. I already knew lots of the basics, but you really need to know them before you can go to any other classes, and the socialization is so important.
