Please Tell Me What You Think.....

About me leaving my "little boy" in the bathroom while we are at work... I have tried to get this addressed before but without any luck. Toby is left out at night. He is 10 weeks and he doesn't potty at night, we make sure he has his dinner at around 5 and then he usually will poop twice and pee 3 or 4 times and we know he is good for the night. But during the day I give him a little scoop of food and some water and take him out he pp's and poops, and then we put him in the bathroom with his bed and a pp pad for the day until I get home. He is left in the bathroom for 6 and 1/2 hours for 3 days a week.... Do you all think this is too long.
He doesn't have a crate, but our bathroom is very small and he has not yet went potty in there yet..

Ashley~N~Toby

P.S. I haven't sent his papers in yet and am trying to think of a good middle name... Any input is welcome!!!!!

first of all Welcome to YT
you need to post pics

do you put toys and treats in there with him?.. if you do . and put water and some food then he should be fine ...
if you can have someone come in and play with him that would be nice too ..
does he potty during the day while your out? or does he hold it till you get home?

I would say that the bethroom is fine as long as he has some food and water as well as toys in there and maybe his bed. He is still very young so I would be leaving food out for him as well as give him a lick of nutrical before you leave in the morning. Where does he sleep at night (in your room or in another room)??...and are you strictly training him to pee outside or using wee wee pads?? If you are wee wee pad training I would leave a wee wee pad in the bathrom as well..just in case..good luck!!

Default Those are some great questions!!!

I put Toby in there with his bed a wewee pad and a bone and tug toy and some kind of toy that resembles a rattle. I put water in there for him, but he usually doesn't drink it. I actually think he sleeps in there all day!!! He is content if I put him in there with this kind of dental bone that is green (can't remember the name of it), but he cried this morning. I heard those dental bones can give them diahrea if you give them the whole thing, so I don't give him one every day. I have never heard of that nutri-? stuff before. I don't put food in there with him b/c I am trying to get him on a schedule and if I give him food he will poop in the room (???) I think. Maybe I should try that just for the sake of getting him used to having to hold it...
I am only training him to go outside. He never took to the peepee pads at all. I do leave one in the bathroom just incase though.

I am trying to get some pics on here. But it is saying they are too big??? Any suggestions?

I think that is fine. I am wondering if you shut the door or put a baby gate up? If you use the gate, please put duct tape over the top or wrap a sheet around the whole gate to prevent you baby from hanging himself if he should decide to climb over. We have dealt with that tragedy on YT before and it is just terrible. Otherwise, I think what you are doing is fine.

The food schedule is good but because he is still so little and you are not there for a few hours it is good to have food down in case of a hypoglycemic episode...also the nutrical is good for that as well IMO. I free fed Maximus until he was about 4lbs. and 4 months at which point I put down his food and my bf comes for lunch so on and so forth

HI I do close the door. We have a cat and she would jump over and Playfully attack him... She is declawed and they play, but sometimes she does get rough with Toby, so I wouldn't want to give her a chance to get Toby jumping and all. She could jump over the gate and then back over again and I think this would more tramatize him then anything. Thank you for your concern.
I just want to have a well adjusted, playful, lovable, little boy!! I don't want to desocialize him by putting him in there. I feel so bad for having to do it, but I know it will be better for him in the long run... Hopefully!!

Hi there, I don't know what nutrical is? Is it a liquid? I don't free feed Toby... I was wondering if this is ok? I do have a cat that will eat and eat and eat. If I leave food down my cat Molly will eat all of it. There is no getting around that one I have tried everything. She has even started jumping on the counters to get his treats. she has never ever done that before. She is the only cat I know that will sit pretty and beg for HUMAN FOOD!!! So there is another dilema... Any thoughts on that???

well if you leave the door closed the cat cant get in right?

Nutrical helps regulate the blood sugar levels.
it helps to prevent hypoglicemia (sp) ... i believe im right on that...

I think Toby will be ok in the bathroom. I agreed with Sam and Judy, I think is best if you leave food out for him, he is still young. You can buy Nutrical at Petco or any pet store. If someone can come during the day and check on him will be even better. You can even look into Doggy Day care. Weclome to YT. Cant wait to see pics of little Toby.

Oh I see. Yeah but that would mean that i could only leave food down for him in the day while he is in the bathroom, would that be ok??? I guess I don't want him to over eat either and then have to take care of it laterby having to put him on a diet. I have seen this one happen to often. Or the other side is never eat, and only want human food, which I will never give to Toby. I had a dog b4 that would only eat human food and beggggggg all the time. It is very annoying. I do feed him a generous amount when I feed him at night, and I feed him in the morning, but I will try that nutrical stuff... Thanks!

I don't free feed. Ever since we got Logan we've fed him three meals a day. He gets fed at 7:30, 12:00, and 5:00. The feeding schedule really helps us with potty training because since he gets fed the same time everyday he poops the same time everyday. However, 6.5 hours may be a little long to leave a pup that young without food. However, our little guy just naps in his playpen the whole time we're gone which i'm sure is what your's does.

Doggy Day care would be great, but thats not in our budget. I wish we could have someone come over and check on him but we really have noone that can do that for us. I can't wait to show you my lil baby boy!!! I have gotten so many pics already, and we have only had him for 2 weeks. Thanks !
