Oh, will that will be exciting! Have the dogs met yet? Some people suggest having them meet in a neutral area when you first introduce them, like the park. Well, at least we know he won't be lonely, and I think taking group walks is very good in helping dogs adjust to each other. Good for the humans too!

All the dogs met on the patio. They all seemed to get along.
Hey, have any of you tried clicker training? I was taught how to use when but I don't know if I should try it.

the first method in my line of trining is clicker, then lure so yes I use clicker.
What is considered postive training over the dominace training.

What would you like to know.
I would suggest that you check out clicker solutions on the net they have great info.
Also have a look at what a freind of mine ca ndo with tigers as well as dogs. You tube and type in Dr Miranda Bourque should pop up.
Asl Karen Pryors site is a good one to look at.
Yes you can clicker multiple dogs.

I'm glad the dogs are getting along, that should help with anxiety levels. I took a class in tricker training, but you must learn to use the clicker as soon as the dog does the required behavior. For example you say "sit" and the dog sits, at the exact moment the dog places his bum on the floor, you click. If you don't click fast enough, you are not "marking" the target behavior, and you could be marking another behavior, such as him sticking his tongue out. I found that the word "Yes" substitutes quiet well for the click, and I always have my mouth with me. :D This type of training is especially useful when you want a dog to perform a specific behavior, but the clicker itself isn't magical, and it's just a noise that the dog learns to be associated with food. Once the click or the word you've choosen is associated with food, everytime he hears that noice, he is rewarded, but when first learning you have to also continue to follow with the food reward. Everytime you click or say yes, food must be given. After a while, you don't have to give food each time.

That's pretty much how I was taught to use it and I really saw no difference between clicker and non-clicker. You reward behavior either way!
I think my biggest problem with training is you say the command once then wait for the desired action, but in the waiting, I think Kaji gets intimidated! I watch so I can mark (with clicker or a simple yes/si) the behavior I want but he starts to put his head down like he's done something naughty. Maybe I have a naturally mean face. :(

I agree with the theory behind it, but in practice, I found that I sometimes do have to say the command more than once. The idea is that you don't want to have to say "sit, sit, sit" to get them to sit. I do think you should pause for a few seconds, but I found that when I introduce a hand signal to the command, he learns the word much better. If we are working on a new trick, and Joey gets a little sad or frustrated I switch back to a trick he knows or just do the fetch trick, and his confidence comes back. Humans have to understand that our language is very foreign to them, and dogs will never learn words as easily as tone. I use the word uh-uh, for "no" during training, and he doesn't seem to get as frustrated, he knows the word uh-uh means he can do something else to get the reward.

I haven't taught him anything, or should I say much, and I can't come up with a good hand signal for sit. He kinda knows "come" and I pair that with tapping the floor so that he knows where he is going. He also knows "not to far" but that one only really applies when we're outside and he's walking off leash. He kinda knows his sit, but he only really does it when he wants to be let out of his expen, he knows to sit before I let him out, and he was starting to sit for his food, but I stopped doing it for a while and now he looks at me like I'm nuts, almost as if he was saying "I didn't have to sit for breakfast, so why do I have to sit now?".

This site has a few: Hand Signals - Obedience Training. I really think it helps them to learn that you"re the boss, if you make them sit before feeding. This has helped Joey become less food aggressive when other dogs are around. I wish I had learned the hand signals first, I kind of made them up as I went along, and I would forget the signal, lol, so how can I expect him to remember it! :D

Well, while it may be obvious, it wasn't obvious to me, and I made up some stupid ones, if you use the ones they made up, they make sense intuitively.

Thought I should let you know since the belly bands arrived, Kaji is becoming less and less stressed. He doesn't pee as much anymore, and I can pick him up without fear of being peed on!
I even did a little experiment. I took my mom and her goddaughter to the zoo leaving Kaji in my brother's care. Of course, the whole time wearing a belly band. Before I came in, I asked my brother to remove his belly band and place him in the tub. I checked his belly band and it was clean! So I went to say hi to my boy and give him kisses and cuddles and that's when he started squirting. It happened again today. I opened the door and he walked out, straight to go potty. After walking a bit, I went to pat his back, and he started to drip again. I'm starting to think it's an excited pee.

Yeah it sounds like that to me too. I suppose ignoring him when you first get home is the thing you should do; this is really hard though!
