I don't know if you guys have heard of Woofstock. apparently it's one of the biggest doggy festicals in North America, if not the biggest. It is held in Toronto every year in June. anyways, this year Brad had a booth, and had people around him asking questions and what not. At some poin he was demonstrating some training techniques with a large breed puppy he had picked out from the crowd (Not sure of the breed, but he was clearly a puppy, although pretty bug already). He was yanking on the poor pup's collar like crazy!!! and the puppy was shaking so hard that at some point his legs gave in and he pretty much spread out on the floor! Which made him yank on him ever harder and harder. I just couldn't watch it anymore, so I walked away. I just hope that the puppy is ok. i'm just surprised that the family was standing there watching it all happen, and not intervene!!! |
What a jerk! I can't believe the family let that go on either! |
Disgusting now I have to look up this person. |
HenrysDad - - thanks for posting this information. Bringing this to light will help countless dogs avoid Brad's cruelty. I haven't seen him or heard of him before, but did read the whole letter to National Geographic and was appalled that someone is training dogs like that and so public about it. I hope he gets nailed for cruelty! |
In the Dog House was originally aired in Canada under the title "At the End of My Leash". I guess they just renamed it for AP, cos alot of the episodes you all have talked about, I have seen. It has been around a couple of years now. I agree, he is harsh, I would much rather watch Cesar Milan. He's got a huge heart for dogs. |
Unfortunately, there is so much conflicting information out there, many people still believe that you need to use these harsh methods to train dogs. :( I can't get over the fact that Brad uses these methods to teach such basic commands that are so incredibly easy to teach other ways. Why would you want to scare the wits out of a dog to teach him to Sit on command? I'd like to see Brad teach a dog something you can't physically force them to do, like Roll Over, or even Come. On a brighter note, Thor finally learned Take It tonight!! :D I'm so excited! I'm going to post a brag thread later, but I have to take a picture of him Holding something cute. His mouth is so little, it's tough to find stuff for him to practice on. But he figured out how to hold a pencil and chapstick, so I'm pretty sure he's got the concept down. |
I had never seen his show...thank god! But after reading that post about that woman's poor little Mica...it just infuriates me. I swear, if I was her and that was being done to my dog. I would have stomped right up to the ring, kicked him in the privates, and walked off with my dog. I hope this woman sued him for the medical bills...that is just disgusting! |
I have never heard of Brad before, but I'm glad I hadn't. What a jerk! I had been thinking about taking Sydney to doggie school, but now I'm scared. I'll work with her myself. Too many scary people out there to handle. |

It is good to have other dogs around and people for distractions while working. Just go being very strong in I will do it my way and if I think I find it to hard on my dog stop or do not do it. I took our new baby to class and her first one was spent on my lap just watching and the trainer thank goodness knows me well enough now that she left us alone. Miss is now up and in class shinning. Thing is if you go and stay strong and do it your way you lead by example and show others that there is another choice. 8 years ago when I joined here the first time I got the stuffing beat out of me repeatedly as I would only train from gentle. Just look at this thread.... look at the changes that have happened in that time. You should se my smile and just how proud I am of all of you. The other thing is to go watch a class or two and see which trainer best fits and talk to them and tell them it is your way of doing things and if they are good they will support you. I have ever so gentle like ignored a few trainers that tried to take over and tell me what to do when. Thing is if they do give me a good idea I reinforce with a positive word or two and they get it that I will accept what i can use and not what i will not use. You do not have to snip back just ignore. But go you could bring hope to someone that does not want to be tough and rough by showing up in the class and being a great example. JL |
