| Taking Toby Outside Hi everyone, I have another question??? I have had Toby for 11 days now and He is my first yorkie. I have owned other dogs, a mut and a pekingese. I don't have them anymore though. Here is another one of my dilemas...Every time I get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, my cat wakes up and goes to the food dish and meows for food and water. (She thinks she is starving if I don't feed her at least 4 times a day.) So I will give her a tiny scoop of food and give Toby a little scoop too. I am trying to keep Toby on a schedule so I will know when he has to potty, but if I give her food and not him, he will eat hers, and I know that is not good for him. This is at like 4 in the morning. I will get my shoes on and take Toby outside, he usually pees, but hasn't had enough time for the food to digest and so therefore he doesn't go #2. But I am exhausted, so I go back in and end up falling asleep. Then he does the inevitable and poops on the carpet, (he is not getting paper trained). He does this during the day while we are gone as well. We are unable to give him consistency. I know I should probably get him a crate, I had someone just give me advice on that one, but I live in a tiny house, and I shut all the doors now where he just has the kitchen and living room to roam in for now until I can get to the pet shop. Plus isn't he too small to go in the crate all night??? I am just not a morning person and don't know what I should do about him going in the house. He usually makes it through the night w/o any accidents, as long as I don't feed him. I just want to be a good mommy and get him trained the right way. Any advice on the crate training is welcome...as well as advice on feeding Toby just once a day?? I didn't know if I should do that or not with him being only 9 weeks. Any advice at all on training him to go outside is welcome as well. I also thought I would let you know that my husband and I both work day shift and are unable to come home for lunch break to let him out. So if I put him in a crate he would be in there from 9-4:30 during the day, and from 10:30-5:00 at night and I thought this would be too long a time to leave him in there. I hope this all made since! Donating YT 14K Club Member | hm, I would find a spot that is higher than he can jump and put the cat food up there. I wouldn't feed him in the middle of the night. it isn't good if you're trying to train him to be on a certain schedule. I keep food out 24/7 and mine eat when they want but then again, they are doggie door trained and go outside to poopie. I'm not big help in the training area but maybe someone can give you better advice.
