| Transitioning from bed to crate So my puppy Mimi is 11 weeks old and I have had her for about a week and a half. This whole time she has been sleeping in the bed with me but I don't think that it will work out so I bought her a crate. She is really attached to sleeping in the bed and I know it will be hard for her to transition to the crate but what will be the best way to make this change and how long do you guys think it will take? She has sniffed the crate but won't go into it even if I put a toy in there. I don't want to force her in but she really can not keep sleeping in the bed with me. |

| This might sound a little wierd but it does work. Go get a old towel and put it in the bottom of your hamper or laundry basket for the day. If you have a dirty one already all the better. Put it in the crate. Leave the crate on the floor of the room you are in and rather than a toy show the puppy a treat in front of the crate and than place a few in the back of the crate or you can make a trail to the back of the crate. Always remember no collars, harnesses or clothing on in the crate you do not want anything getting caught. As for how long I cant tell you that but if you can get her used to the crate today I would try and put the crate tonight either on my bed or on a nightstand next to my bed so the puppy can see you and the slowly move the crate further away from you untill you reach your final destination |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Well your right.. its gonna be a hard transition. But it might take a while. You will just have to be patient. My advise is to put the crate right by your bed. She will cry for a while at first, but its just better to ignore so she will learn. Although i probably shouldnt be talking in this situation!! I left bella in the crate for a couple months then eventually let her sleep in the bed with me! he he

| Before I allowed Jackson to sleep on my bed, he slept in a crate. I tried putting him on the floor next to my bed but he whined and whined.... so I put the actual crate ON my bed, lol. It was a pain but I did it for about 2 weeks and then he eventually just began sleeping in my bed. I think he learned from that you're supposed to stay ON the bed all night because he slept from 10pm-7am! Now he will sleep even longer.

| My suggestion is to put a nice comfy bed with blanket in a small animal tent. I use one for my 2 and I zip them in everynight so they can sleep in my room. Don't give in to crying or whining to get out after a while your puppy will know that this is for sleeping and will go to it.

| Thanks for all of the advice. I am going to try this today/tonight. I'm just hoping that she doesn't start barking because we live in apartments. |
