| Housebreaking Hell! Hi All, Teddy is driving me literally insane! I am having the hardest time getting him to connect that outside is the ONLY place to go. He is five months old and will tell us if he has to go if we are upstairs on the bed, but if we are downstairs even when he is confined to our small living room/kitchen, he doesn't tell me and just finds a place to poop. Now he has access to the doggie door and if we take him out there he goes, but last night he actually pooped and peed right next to the dog door inside the house!!! He did this near the front door too once when the door was open and he could go out to potty. Then.......last night he pooped on the bed in the middle of the night. He has only been sleeping the bed for four nights and I always take him out when I feel him get up, but once last night I didn't and he pooped at the end of the bed without telling me he had to go...my husband woke up by putting his foot in it!!!! I'm lucky Teddy and I aren't dead today! HELPPPPPPP!

I'm so sorry you are having such a rough time. Sometines is just takes a lot of patience and consistency. Just like potty training a child. Some catch on quicker than others. When I was housebreaking Mollie I would stearnly when I saw her tell her bad dog and she would just cower I didn't yell I just calmly said bad dog and went and picked her up and took her outside. Good Luck. It's just patience, understanding & consistency, just like with a child. I wouldn't allow him back on the bed for a while. I would crate him at night or put him somewhere where he can't cause a lot of damage.

| Are you giving him a treat when he goes outside? I am having better luck now (Less accidents with my 4 month old) now that I am using treats that she loves. After she goes she comes running to me for her treat. At first I just praised her without the treat or gave her a piece of her dogfood that she was not that excited about. We were not getting anywhere with that method. Then I was at petsmart and bought some peanut butter treats and she loves them so much that I think it is helping the potty training alot. |
