That little angel losing its wings is breaking my heart! We'll make it together, ParrotLady! Thor and Penny can be potty buddies. I'll tell Thor he has to be strong for his buddy. |
I just found this thread, but it's exactly what I needed! Chloe has been doing wonderful with her potty training...she knows where the door is and what "outside" means. She hasn't been sleeping in my bed with me because I didn't want to wake up laying in an accident, so she was crate trained. For the past few weeks, she hasn't had any accidents at night and very few in the house. So I let her sleep in the bed with me for the first time last night...SHE DIDN'T HAVE ANY ACCIDENTS!!! I was so proud of my little girl. So when 7:30 rolled around, I knew she needed to use the potty, so I took her outside and she did her business. Since she was doing so well, and just went to the bathroom, I let her play in my bedroom. Well at some point while I was taking a shower, she decided to use the bathroom on the carpet in the bedroom... So we're back to the beginning...I'll let her sleep with me still, but no more unsupervised playing on the carpet! |
Layla and I still aren't on the same level with her training! She's blocked from the kitchen so she can't pee on the rug (although she has pushed a suitcase aside TWICE to get through anyway). And she really does love going outside to pee because it means TREATS! But she still has troubles telling me when she needs to go. She is still scared of the bells even though I ring them everytime I take her out. I've even tried treats but she didn't understand ringing the bells for treats. She just got frustrated that I had treats and a mean set of potty bells, and she wasn't getting treats until I forced her to touch them! A couple of days ago I held the bells beside her on the couch (where she ran to hide from them!) and I didn't force them towards her but just held them beside her. Eventually she turned her head to look... and then got a little closer, and the tip of her tongue just touched a bell but I gave her tons of praise anyway and let her outside. I really hope she catches on soon! The whole point is to hear the bells when I'm not watching her every second. |

We just can't let set backs end it all for us and them. I just keep imagining Penny :doghop: through the house without restrictions. THAT is what keeps me going. :) Hey acl1209, Penny would do the same thing!! I would think she was on "empty" and then she would go about 10 minutes later in our bedroom or something. :( No more running around for her accept in her boxed off area. :2smileys: Together we will ALL make it!! |
Just wondering, but are they big bells? It might be the specific sound that scares her...maybe a smaller set of bells with a lighter sound would help...Most craft stores have a wide variety of sizes...that may be the only problem. |

That's exactly what's going to have to happen...I think she got confused when I wasn't there to open the door. Anyway, she's going to have to play in the kitchen until she learns how to completely be on empty lol! |
And she was doing so good... Cleo had a pee accident last night on the bathroom rug right in front of me. We were sleeping on the couch together and i woke up having to tinkle (i know tmi). I knew she did to, but i went first and she followed me and squated. I tried to tell her no, but she just looked at me! Oh well, i guess this ones on me. On a positive note, she did a #2 on her pad yesterday! |
I don't feel like the bells are too big... they aren't too loud... I'm not really sure what it is. Last night we had people over for a fundraising meeting (and needed the chairs which were doing the blocking), so I decided I'd see how Layla would do having free run of the kitchen (with the fabulous potty rug... I mean area rug). I watched her the whole time and if I saw her sniffing at the rug I would make her get off it. Anyways, I went to bed and had her in my room. I was exhausted but she kept wanting to go in and out so I just left the door open a crack - forgetting I hadn't blocked off the kitchen. I woke up this morning to see a fresh pee spot and a little pile of poop ON HER PAD!!! Not on the area rug!!! So that was a huge step :) I did block the kitchen off again for today while I'm at work. |
Congrats! I'm glad that she used her pad and not your rug! That's a great start! Sorry to hear about the bells..I don't know why else it would bother her..... |

My baby is 9 weeks and I've started her on Pee Pads as soon as I got her. She has a few accidents but that is expected at such a young age. When she gets up in the morning I take her over the pee pad and I say use the bathroom. Sometimes she does....sometime she doesn't. . . . . I'll let you guys know how this is going by the next few weeks. :) Our goal is to housebroken by 1 years old! |
Potty Update Hi all potty warriors- Haven't written for awhile so here is the update. Muffin is still eating the artificial grass occaisionally- but I do think she is getting the hang of it. She has been pooing and weeing on the portable potty and looks forward to her treats. Unless she is sneaking behind my back I think she has been kind of consistant for about two to three days now. Cassie, on the other hand will go wee on the portable potty sometimes, but she has an aversion to going poo. She would so much rather poo on my carpet!!! (HELP!) She also wee's whenever she can get away with it, on my carpet. Sigh! I'm just not seeing an end in sight for Cassie. She is two years old today. Sometimes I sit there and when she starts to poo on the rug I try to pick her up and put her on the potty. She usually runs away, and I have to run and catch her and put her on the grass. But she jumps right off the grass and when I am not looking, (usually when I am going potty myself) she will potty on the carpet. Please somebody, tell me there will be a happy ending to my potty blues sometime during my lifetime (LOL!). I know I have to put aside an entire weekend and just stare at them for 24 hours a day and put them on the potty every half hour repeating the potty command. I just haven't had an entire weekend to dedicate to this yet. But I am getting desperate. I think I will have to make this committment soon. |
broodizt - have you tried what some of us have done and just confine her only to one area or crate train her? Different things work for different dogs it seems, but I am just learning about all this myself. |
Update on Penny, my fallen angel. We are still at day 0 it seems. We took Penny to the vet today for her shots and first exam by our vet. (He said she looked healthy and she threw up in the carrier on the way home. ) Well, while we were gone hubby decided to vacuum the office and he said he found a wet spot. :( I guess she must have gone off the pad again this morning. Oh well, we will not give up! There is always tomorrow. :) |
