Lol..well.. we just had our 3rd accident, but i guess 3 out of 10, isnt so bad.. but i probably shouldnt have gotten so excited.. but part of it is my fault.. if anything glad it was on the wipeable floor rather then carpet. |
She's great with peeing but horrible with pooping Hi everyone I got my Fifi when she was three months old. She is now six months old!! I got her to pee on her puppy pad at 4 months. I was so happy I bought a baby gate and locked off my kithen which is the only area of my aprartment that doesn't have carpet. I use to sit in there with her and place her on the puppy pad. If she would pee off the pad I would soak up the pee with the pad. I would then place it back in the kitchen and take her back again in the kitchen an hour later. I would then sit with her again in the kitchen for awhile and place her on the pad. Finally when she would start doing it on the pad i would give her a treat. Then after that I would start locking her up in the kitchen and not let her out until she peed on the pad and then i would give her a treat. After two weeks it got easier as I would lock her up she would go straight to pee on the pad and then look at me to give her a treat. I have no problem with the peeing now she goes all by herself and i have to give her a treat for every time she pees on the pad so I literally have to count the spots. She sleeps through the night and never pees on the bed (Thank God) We go out for hours now and when we come back her pad is full of pee pee spots and she's waiting for her treats. I hope she continues when i go back to work  But i'm having major problems with her poop:eek: she refuses to poo on her pad. She only poops in one spot under my dinner table:mad:. No matter what i do she won't poop anywhere else. Thank goodness she has never had diarrhea so it's easy to clean up bec it's always hard. She also does the weirdest thing when she's done pooping, she kicks and digs with her back feet it's so funny. I'm so scared that she will poop when i have friends and family over :( I don't know what to do, i've tried everything:confused: Can anyone give me advice I don't know what else to do. She won't go outside either I can take her for long walks and she will hold her pee to do it on her pad and her poop to do it under my kitchen table:mad: Thanks in advance for any advice, sorry for such a long post :( Naomi and Fifi :yorkietal |
Hm. Let's see. You could try putting a pad under your dining room table, and then moving the pad gradually to a more suitable area. If you don't do that, you need to keep her away from her spot. Do you clean with an enzyme cleaner? I would not let her into the dining room until she learns to poop somewhere else. Are her bowel movements predictable? If they are at roughly the same time of day, you know to keep an especially close eye on her then. I know this is gross, but you could put some of her poop (or a remnant) on the pad to encourage her to go there. Dogs generally like to poop somewhere that is quiet and comfortable, like on a rug underneath a table. They also generally like to poop far away from their food. westieboy suggested feeding dogs near their preferrred poop spot, since this motivates them to find another place. It might also help to put another pad out for her that she can use just for pooping. |

I've tried putting a pad under the table but she pees on it instead  I had to remove it bec she was missing the pad sometimes and it would get on the carpet. I've tried putting down several pads in the kitchen and she just pees on every single one. I clean with Nature's miracle and i've also tried leaving poop on a puppy pad for days to see if she will go on it. Also she never poops the same time of day maybe bec i leave her wellness kibbles down all day:confused: It's kinda hard for me to section off the area bec I live in an apartment but i'll see how I could do it. I'm gonna try putting her food by the poop and see what happens. Hopefully it will work :( |
Potty Nightmare!! I just got a new yorkie April 3, 2009, she was 14 wks at the time, the lady who I got her from had her on potty pads inside a big crate, this is all she knows, and here I am two months later, she just turned 5 months old yesterday and still has no clue what to do when I take her outside to go potty. Since she only knows to go in a big black metal crate I bought her a exercise play pen for the back yard thinking she would go in there, no luck!! Any suggestions, it's really frustrating. Wish the lady would have introduced her to the outside somewhat before I brought her home. I also have a 1 year old yorkie and she was really difficult to train, took me almost a year with her, but at least she knew what to do once I took her out, please help if you can.. |
Potty nightmares 1 Attachment(s) I take Zipper out every three hours. At night he sleeps on my bed and never has had an accident. When I go out for an afternoon I lay a potty pad down but he usually holds it but if I leave him at large when I go out he will go whereever. I have taken the baby gates down as he jumps them. He just jumps up and down til he is high enough to clear it. I take him out on a leash at night and walk him til he poops. |Some days he will just go whenever I take him out but other times at midnight neighbours can hear me saY POOP NOW YOU LITTLE DEVIL! |
I've gotta bring this thread back! I moved into my new condo, and Layla had a couple of accidents at the start which I expected with a new, unfamiliar place. Because we were renovating, we slept in the spare room while stuff was piled everywhere else. We blocked her into an area with the spare room and the laundry room. The laundry room has her food, water, bed, toys, and potty pad. She was very consistent. However, if we left her in JUST the laundry room (like we did at the start) she would jump over the gate, push on it, and even CHEWED THROUGH IT to pull it down and get out. BUT she still didn't have accidents while she was out so we thought, hey, maybe she's showing us she can be responsible. She went 5 days without an accident! But now we're back to square one. She started going backwards on the weekend. Maybe it has to do with the company we had. We are now sleeping in the master bedroom, and she is going into the spare bedroom to pee and poop. She didn't even think of it when we were sleeping in there. So now that door can't be left open. I also have a little den/library area in the back of my living room, and that's her favorite spot to potty, so that's blocked off. Now she'll pee and poop right in front of the patio doors. Maybe she's waiting there to get let out, but we're not home. Either way, she's getting out of hand and my carpets are being ruined. I think I'll have to resort to closing the laundry room door so she can't get out over just the gate, but I know she will whine for hours and scratch the heck out of the door. My goal is to have a potty trained dog by this time next year! |
I'm really scared of jinxing myself by typing this...But Willow is now close to 8 months and totally has it figured out...She uses a litter box and hasn't had an accident in months...but i'm sure now tonight she will have one just cause I bragged on her. |

When my friend and her husband visited this weekend I told them how Layla transitioned so well and hadn't had an accident in 5 days... then we went out for supper and came home and had a surprise :( |
Keep it up, everyone! :) linz06, I take my dog to work with me, and my company moved offices. Thor went totally haywire. We had half a dozen mis-poops. I'm not sure about the mis-pees because they are easier to, well, miss! Anyway, after a week, he was back on track. I caught him a few times in the act, said NO, and took him to his pad. I'm giving him really good treats for going on the pad at work - he gets them less frequently at home now. I'm sure she will catch on after a bit. I would go back to Square 1 for a few days, and give her another room every few days. Can you spend extra time in every room, and/or put a doggie bed in there? They prefer using spaces that seem "out of the way." |
Yeah I was thinking about spending more time in the rooms, and maybe even leaving my things in the rooms she's been pottying in... if I leave some sweaters or tshirts on the floor, I don't think she'll potty near them because she likes to sleep on them! I guess I could claim it more as MY area and not her potty place. My other option was to put another pee pad down by the patio door, because the laundry room is on the other side of the condo. In our last place if I wasn't there to let her out, she could walk a couple steps over and use her pad. But then again, that's just dealing and not training. I'm sure it will just take time, but she got my hopes up too high already! |
Well I'm just starting to potty train. i got my nany a week ago and the breeder that i got her from told me to put pads down in her xpen and gradually take them away. She's pees on all of the pads and poos too but at least its on the pads. Ive been praising her all day for going in the right spots and so she can know the peepee call for when we start going outside. she cant go outside yet cause she hasnt gotten all her shots. i have taken her outside twice and she has gone to the bathroom wth no problems. Once i didnt know not to take her out and the second was today because we had cabin fever and i just took her for a quick strong for excersie and she went to the bathroom. I just hope we dont have a hard time doing the doo.;) |
