Like this morning I went to doctor and when I come back poop still on a pad but it has definately been tasted. She must have rolled it on the pad and split it in two. So we still got it. I know she might have smelled something tasty in it. Nevertheless, she left me some! :D She ain't greedy! So I must say we still have the problem, as I said she is fine when we are at home but when she is alone she just can't help it and try something else. Glad you have found a way how to discourage Scully. :D Fingers crossed! |

It's funny, but I know it's quite a problem when she starts taking it to her bed like her favourite snack. I would suggest changing her diet. As long as she finds something tasty in it she will go for it! Keep her just on dry food, not treats, it may help. Also make sure you are using a good brand. Tara did well after I put her on Royal canine, like magic she stopped, but then I changed to Eukanuba and she started again, but after a while she was fine on Eukanuba as well, but the worst is Purina Bakers she always eats after that one so I won't be buying it again. |

But she isn't eating it. I switched her food to Merrick and she has a tsp of crushed pineapple in AM and PM. She doesn't eat it anymore, just brings it there! Like it is a toy or something! She never smells of it so I know she doesn't eat it but it is still gross! |

That is when she mostly does it. But this morning, I put her in her pen while I took a shower and when I got out, she had a new friend in bed with her!!! |

poo chew prevention? The big brother(Choco) sometimes snacks on his or his little brother's(Scooby) poo. While the pineapple may deter Cho' chewing on his own turds, Scooby eats almost exclusively Royal Canin, plus maybe some Jerhigh doggie snacks and loves crackers. Choco will eat most anything depending on his appetite. Seems if he is fed well, some liver, chicken or beef with his dry food(mainly Royal Canin due to Scooby's picky preference), plus maybe some fruit, veggies etc... his appetite for poo subsides but may also stop eating dry food. In short, if he gets to spoiled with people food his appetite for poo along with dry food diminishes. Now we do withhold the goodies if he refuses to eat dry food until his appetite renews his interest in the dry food. Unfortunately, this is the risky time for poo too. We try to clean up poo before Choco can get to it, which often we are successful, and balance the goodies(including people food) so he still eats a good portion of dry food which seems to deter poo snacking mostly but since not always around still once in a while he will go for the poo. If he neatly ate it would be less of a concern but he does like to grab it and move it to a comfy eating place leaving pieces strewn about. For Scooby's poo, since pineapple not feasible due to his finicky tastes (though will try pumpkin) would leaving his poo out but spiking with something like spicy help condition Choco to not even consider. Or will he just sniff each time to check if tasty or not and unfortunately the times it would be tasty is when we are not around to spike it or clean it up. Welcome suggestions. |

don't eat Scooby's poo Scooby is a very picky eater, we have offered him fruit before always rejected likewise with veggies, meats etc.., but have not tried pineapple yet. Expect Scooby will not eat. Thus the challenge to make Scooby's poo unappetizing to Choco. We can spoil Choco's poo easy enough, since expect he will eat pineapple since he is opposite of Scooby and eats just about whatever we put in front of Choco. Guess that is why Choco even doesn't mind eating poo, his or Scooby's. Anyway, will try both pineapple and pumpkin with Scooby. Today found piece of misplaced poo which suggests Choco was playing or chewing again. |

I'm bumping this thread up because I am having this problem with Bailey and found lots of handy info here. I have been trying pineapple for several days now, but so far it doesn't seem to be helping. I'm using little pineapple pieces from fruit cups packed in pineapple juice though. Could it be because of the sugar in these that it's not working? Do I need just plain pineapple? Also I am feeding Eukanuba and I think that could be part of the problem. That might also be the reason Bailey is often stractching (?). I want to switch her to a premium food. I'm waiting for Wellness samples. But I don't want to waste the rest of the Eukanuba bag. :( |

*I just reread where you said that Bailey is scratching. It is probably an allergy and I would recommend changing to something that like Natural Balance Sweet Potato and Venison which is a limited ingrediant food. That is what mine eat. Do not wait to make the change, poor little pupster is itchy :( |

omg !!! i never heard of this... my roxi randomly steals her poop and hides it... waits a day or too once its dried up and then chews on it.. its really disgusting lol... its like she has an aging process for the poop before she munches on it.. but i must say i havent seen her do it lately... and right now im more concerned on how to get her to pee on her pad instead of everywhere else like the kitchen floor, the bed, the sofa... uggghhh !!!! im desperate |

Worked for me The pineapple thing worked for me after a couple of weeks. I was first using fresh pineapple - but it was coming out the same way it went in and I don't think it had enough time to digest through his system. Then, I switched to the unsweetened crushed pineapple from a can and that worked better - it did take a couple of weeks. I also changed his food from Eukanuba to Wellness - big difference. I'm happy to say Sully is a Recovering Poop-A-Holic. On walks, he occasionally tempted by other nasty "treats" on the side of the road - but for the most part - I think he's over it. It's been about a month and I still give him a tbsp of pineapple about 3x a week after breakfast - just to make sure. |

 1. You need to adjust the amount of pineapple until you see a change. 2. If you read through this thread they are coming back after 1 day and 1 piece of pineapple to say it didn't work. So even if it is in theory that you will see a change, if you have someone who is not vigilant about the pineapple several times a day for a week or so they will fail. So it is just easier to say overall to keep up with it over several weeks. 3. Even the Deter and Forbid say it takes time for it to work. This thread has kind of taken on a life of its own and really has turned very informative IMO. I too was always under the impression that about a week was enough but I have personally learned that every poop eater is not the same when it comes to poop eating. Some will stop after a day, some will need a pineapple adjustment, some will take weeks of eating pineapple for it to really work. I have not seem anyone that really worked at this problem not be able to get their dog to stop if they are religious about feeding the pineapple, picking up the poop and continuing over a period of time and changing to a high quality dog food. It is kind of a joke among my friends now that I am the poop eating "expert" and they will now send me the threads that pop up about poop eating  luck me. ;) So as time has gone by it really is my opinion that it needs to be over several weeks for it to really work. You are not going to find an article that says this by word but if you read all the different threads about poop eating and pineapple you will see that even hardcore poop eaters are curable but it will take time and adjustment. So several weeks in my book is what it takes. :) |
