Help!! Now Lilly is eating POOP!!! Lilly is 4 months old. We have another dog, Tico, who is 1 year and a half. We have pee pad trained our dog. When I was leaving out the door Tico was taking a poop. When I got back home, there was a brown smudge on the pad, but the poop was gone. An hour later Lilly the 4 month old was puking, and sure enough, it was all you know what. Why is she doing this, and how can I stop her? |
poop!!!!!!! :oI know about this one try 3 boys trying and fighting over the girls poop.Well I have drayed pineapple, the chunky kind they each get 3 pisces.I have seen a difference in the poop, and so far now only i is still eating the p word. Then someone said pumkin just plain in the can, mix with the food. My vet gave me stuff to put on the food, this did not work.So try what you want to use.... |
I give Olivia a chunk of pineapple with each of her 2 meals a day; she was a "secret poop eater" so I never actually SAW her eat it but I know she did. Since adding the pineapple I don't think she is eating it anymore. With the ice and snow storm we had this week, we have had a couple of accidents in the house - and I found her tootsie rolls, undisturbed! So pineapple seems to be doing the trick for us. |

The pineapple will change the taste of the food so that is why you feed them it. Good is good and will not harm them so give a few pieces a couple of times a day. If you still have a poop eater give a piece or two more. It's not a forever thing (feeding pineapple) you just want them to think it tastes bad so they stop. Once they stop after a while you can cut back or stop. *I have to agree that it is really gross! |
Pumpkin, canned, plain I add a little bit of plain canned pumpkin to my yorkie's food each day and she has stopped eating her stools completely. She will go up to it and smell it and then walk away. Hooray, I say. Barbara, guaardian of Mau'i Quote:

I have only been a member for a month, and I just wanted to say, isn't everybody so helpful?! I appreciate all the knowledge that everyone has so much. Because all o these simple problems are shared by everyone, and not everything can be fixed by the vet trips! Thanks so much everyone!! |
OK..now I am curious. Does the pineapple taste good going in, but awful after it comes out? Is that the deal? I have never heard of this, but I have one of *them* and have to follow him all over the yard to prevent him from following behind another...disgusting. |
I just don't get it. I caught Bella eating hers, and scolded her. I don't think that she's tried it again. Ugh, I had to go brush her teeth, and give her breath mints. Nasty girl!!! |
Little Poopers!! :p LOLOLOL....sorry all..but reading these are just too funny!! KiKi was a poop eater too for the longest time....she would pick up a piece and carry it to her blanket to chew on it like it was her favorite bone! Thankfully she grew out of this habit!:p Good luck to you with this...I know it's frustrating!:D |

Yes, it is a pretty hilarious thread...the things we go through with these little characters! |
I also am trying the pineapple thing. Someone pointed out grains...I have been using cherrios for training purposes. Will stop that one! Katy is 13 weeks and so far does not bark. We have a very quiet house with just my husband and me and we live in an adult community so there isn't a lot of noise, etc. I must cure the poop thing as it totally grossing us out! |

When I make my 3 their dinner I use kibble but I also add Evanger's Venison and packed pumpkin. So if they do not like pineapple or want to switch it up a little for variety this will also work. My "recipe" is a can of Evanger's Evanger's Dog and Cat Food Company The price on their site is PER CASE so don't freak:p I buy from my local doggie boutique for about $1.30 per can. The pumpkin is about $2.00 per can. Here is the type of pumpkin I am talking about: LIBBY'S Nutriton - NESTLE VeryBestBaking.com 1 can of Evanger's game meat 1 can of packed pumpkin Mix together in a bowl for storage I add about a tablespoon to their dry kibble and then a little warm water mix together to form a gravy that sticks to the kibble. My three LOVE it!!! The mixture will last me a week with 3 dogs feeding 2 times a day. I have feed this to Doodlebug since he was about 4 months old with his puppy food. It even helped with his upset tummy problems he was having. So it is a win/win solution! :animal36 |
How long does the feeding them pineapple thing to work before they stop eating their poop? I have a 11 week old boy and I caught him eating it one day so I figured I would try the pineapple thing. I have been giving him some for 1-1/2 days and I just caught him chewing a piece again! Damn his breath stinks!!! I have also tried some of the pills from pet smart but he wouldn't touch them. HELP!!! |

Just to clear up a couple of things, pineapple contains BROMELAIN, which is an ingredient that is used in meat tenderizers. Certain dog foods use meat sources with a harder to digest protein, and BROMELAIN is an enzyme which helps digest these proteins. The poop no has undigested protein in it to attract the dog. It doesn't smell that different, it just no longer smells nutritious, because the protein is gone. |
Been trying the pineapple thing for about 5 days now. He he still eating the poop every once in a while. Doesn't seem to be working for me. |

You can also add canned pumpkin to the food. It is also suppose to do the same thing. |
poop eater my 4 month old is eating her poop also. I gave her some crushed pineapple because that was all I had in the house, and she eat it. The next time she went, she had very watery stools. I only gave her a small amount. I don't know what to do. I am feeding her the science diet and she goes to the bathroom like 4 times a day! I don't know if that is normal or not.? |

It's probably not the pineapple. How is she doing now? |
This is normal... Dogs have a very acute sense of smell and as a result can smell the unused minerals in their poop. Just try to clean it up as quickly as possible so to keep it to a minimum but I would not worry too much about it. My vet told me it is one of those "dog will be dogs" kinda things. |
