YorkieTalk Newbie! | ![]() i started litter training my puppy to go outside, but she is only 11 weeks old & 1.8 pounds, even if i put a sweater and a coat on she still seems to get cold and refuses to do anything. yesterday i took to the vet after having 24hrs without going potty, she said she might be a little bit nervous and gave her a enema. Then last night i feed her and took her outside 5min after to go potty. she refused to go potty so i took her inside and put her on her crate. this morning i tried litter training her inside with cat litter in a small box, she started smelling it and went potty there. i dont really like the idea of her getting used to going potty inside i dont think any dog should have the idea that it is ok to potty anyplace in the house, i would like her to go outside but because of the really cold weather i dont want her to get sick and she doesnt seem to do it in cold. Can someone please give me some advice on what to do, if to just train her on one of them, and could it work out to do both? |

| ![]() Alot of Yorkie dislike the cold temperatures. Luckily, Finnigan will do his business outside really fast and then run back in. The first winter we'd really have to stay outside for awhile before he'd go in the cold, but I didn't want him to get used to getting his way of not going outside. We crate trained him so if he wouldn't go potty outside when we took him he went back into his crate and if he did potty he got to play outside his crate for 15-30 min. Is it the litter part of indoor training you dislike or just the going inside part? Alot of members use puppy pads inside. I've heard mixed things about litter box training. IMO its too messy! Good luck!

| ![]() In this weather, if I had a young puppy - I would initially pad or paper train inside and then move to outside as the weather permits (there are books on how to do this). Once trained to go outside - then keep it that way. Bailey is an outside pottier - and the colder the weather, the quicker the trip! She is two years old now. I remember last year, when it snowed, she didn't even make it off the deck ![]() Good luck!

| ![]() If she is getting used to the litter, could you just see if she will use the litter box outside. Maybe that way if she knows what it is for inside, maybe she can get the hang of going outside? But then again what do I know, I use pee pads...LOL
