| HELP! How to train ok to pee during walks vs. not ok to pee while in the dept store? I have a training question ...... So far Ive been good with training my Yorkie (I hope). He is mainly trained to pee and poop on the wee wee pad. But eventually I'd like to take him out for walks and he can release that way as well. But how does a Yorkie know the difference - once on a leash, when to pee and when not to pee? I've seen a friend's dog who thinks whenever he's on a leash, it's ok to pee. So even in the middle of Bloomingdales or Petco, he peed ... what can I do? |

| There is not alot realy you can do!! I always pick mine up when going into a shop. Just to save the embarisment!! and always take a poo scoop and little bags when I walk them outdoors. Apart from that you just have to keep your fingers crossed!!! Love WendyX Fifi And Lulu |

| I really don't see the need to take a dog in a store, unless they are excepted, like a petsmart petstore. Otherwise, I don't think people should bring their dogs in stores. It doesn't matter if it is a 100lb dog or a small yorkie, in the end, they are all a dog. |

| Perhaps where you live people don't take dogs into stores and restaurants. I know people who live in the suburbs or even NJ for that matter, leave their dogs home all the time. Where I live, it's the norm. All my friends shop with the puppies. When we go to restaurants the chefs know to make unseasoned entrees for our babies. Since this is the culture where I live, this presents a problem. So if anyone can shed light to the situation, someone who understands and have had the experience ... that would be great. |

| Gracie is really good. She just somehow knows that it is OK to pee on the grass or on the pee pad. She never pees in a store and never poops unless it is home on the pee pad. Holly on the other hand is a problem. When in the car, she gets really excited. I make sure she goes potty outside before we go in the store. She will go anywhere. In the store, I generally put both of them in the shopping cart, but once in a while I let them walk around if there are not a lot of other dogs or people around.

| I guess I have to wait and see and maybe even walk inside the building a bit with my dog and see if he pees. Thanks! |

Thor's Human Donating Member | You know, that had never occurred to me. Thor is not super-smart, but he has never, ever peed in a store. He has peed in my home and office, however. I assumed he knows the difference between indoors and outdoors. I do make sure he's empty before I take him inside. Maybe try your baby in a petstore and go from there. |

| Maybe you can put a belly band on him when you go into stores so that if he does pee, it will be absorbed in the band and not make a mess on the floor.

| Its good you brought this up...Mine has embarrassed me before in a store because I never thought about this..he peed and then poo'd!!!! Good thing I have lots of tissue paper and poo bag with me! So I cleaned it up real quick and good. After that, I just carry him all the time. He hates being in the cart so I have to carry the 10 pounder in the store.

sweetie...to alot of little doggies....a walk is a walk...whether inside or out...so he just thinks when you have him on his leash that he is taking a walk...you may have to invest in bellybands....just for when you are inside places that are not your home....i think it is great that he is allowed in stores there...i wish they were here....enjoy it...just get him some belly bands...and put a pad in them...and then you can both enjoy your outings

I think that is a very good idea. Then you don't have to worry about an accident and you can relax and enjoy your shopping. As he gets older you may find you don't need it , but at the beginning I think it's a good solution.
