Does anyone have any advised on how to stop my puppy trying to run out of every door she sees? At home is no problem cuz she has a baby gate so we can keep her behind it. But if were out somewhere and theres a door that opens she tries to run out. For example at a puppy play group she goes to people always comes in and out and theres been several times that someone almost slams the door on her.

I'm sad to tell you this, but all my girls do that

and in our meet up we keep them on the leash. I just don't take chances they listen when ever they want

I was hoping there would of been a solution. Thanks anyways. I hate having to leave her lease on. I guess i just have to try and sit next to the door every time.

My little girl does the same thing. If she's off the leash she'll take off running. She did this last week and took off running. I couldn't run because she'll just run even after. Good thing she wasn't crossing the street. She got half way around the block before my boyfriend showed up (who she loves). I taught her "go get him" and she ran up to ran. I would die if she got ran over by a car since we were around the corner from one of our main streets. I put her in time out and locked her in her crate...then I felt bad.

i would start working with her at home. remove the baby gate and leave the front door open and give her a command like "stay here" or something that you would prefer and once she has the "stay here" then work on a "go out" when i am leaving somewhere both of mine will follow me to the door and all i have to do is say no to them and they know they cant go out at that time and if they are close to the door they actually back up about 3 feet so the door doesnt hit them when i open and close it. after i say no they just sit and watch me leave. dont be afraid to try something even if it seems silly because sometimes silly is the only thing that works.

I was going to suggest the same-and consistancy.My sister in law had a yorkie that used to try to get out the door everytime it opened.One night she was at work and her nephew opened the door and winston got out.He ran to the road and got hit and killed. I made sure I taught my dogs to sit and stay whenever the door opened.

Train them in your house that they are not to go thru a door until you do
Put a person or their favorite squeeze toy on the other side of a door
and slowwly open it
And tell them STAY....
You might have to shut it again quick before they bolt thru it but keep it up
They'll get the message

Practice that stay command in all sorts of places for all sorts of things. It's a very handy command to use in all situations! Sometimes when mine won't recall a good firm "wait" will stop them in their tracks!

You could start training the stay without the temptation of the door as well. Put her in the stay. Move two steps away, count to three, then call her to you. Build up the number of steps and the count slowly. If your dog breaks then go back a step.

Pretty soon you'll have out of sight 2 minute stays!
