I would suggest that your read "Cesar's Way." Cesar Millan's first book, I didn't find the second as helpful. ( I should tell this guy that I want an advertising bonus!) Then, read as much as you can about the breed and ways that others train. Then I would take what "fit's in your lives, your natures, your schedules, other animals, kids or elderly around and apply it. Uf you have access to a library , you can get some videos, cd's etc. that show you what effect certain methods have. Or order from Amazon.com. I learn better when I can "see" what I am supposed to do.
Also, I didn't know that they go thru puppy, adolescent, adult stages and Sophie was doing so well with the basics , then, when she was about 1 yr old, she undid everything, to my frustration. when I learned she was rebelling or doing whatever, I had to be patient with myself to go back to the basics, not go forward.
For me, a bit later , I found "Dogs for Dummies or Pupppies for Dummies " and wished that I had paid more attention to how smart YOrkies are. not too late, but I tend to get lazy because Sophie is so good as she is.
What does your dog do that you have trouble with? Bye, Sandy :
