| my 2 beautiful morkie boys-but help i am new to this forum and have enjoyed reading all the different posts. it's nice to see some familiar situations.. i have a 7 month old morkie(i've had him 2 months) and a 9 month old morkie(i've had him 1 month) that we got from the same place..the younger one is perfect in almost every way... he won't stay in a crate or even a gated kitchen, he always gets out!!!he barks, scratches and goes crazy.. and the 9 month old won't let you come to him.. he will jump on the bed or on the couch and lay on you but if you try to pick him up or let him inside, he runs away. once you have him, he is happy.. he even follows me everywhere, but when i turn to pick him up he runs..the 2 boys are wonderful together..any suggestions on what i can do for either puppy... thanks...looking forward to the advice |

| My morkie girl, I started out in a crate for night and every time I leave the house. Now she hears my keys, and she's in there. I started giving her cheerios everytime I put her in and now at 8 p.m. she's in there and makes sure I see her go in so she gets her treat. The other problem - I don't think you can make a Morkie come. I can if I'm in my chair, but anywhere else, same problem. She runs. Drives me nuts, but I think it's a Yorkie thing, because my Yorkie does the same thing. Just gets close enough and starts dancing out of the way. Doesn't matter how bad she want picked up or whatever, she can't stop dancing and dodging. I'm working on it though - will let you kow if I have any luck with anything. Welcome by the way - I love Morkies.

| So when you go to pick them up do you lean over or get low to the ground and have yourself turned to the side. Full one bent over the top is rude dog language to them and run is what they are to do with that kind of language to them...... Great dog speak they have.... They need more social skills and to learn humans do things strange. So bend low of sit and let them come to you. Use calm low tones to slow them down in actions. the need to follow everywhere is lack of confidence and I look at teaching go settle or look at me games.... Book for this would be Control Unleash By Leslie McDewitt it all about raising confidence. I also suggest On Talking Terms with Dogs by Tuird Rugass Crate training is a different thing ClickerSolutions Training Articles -- Crate Training JL Last edited by YorkieMother; 08-30-2008 at 09:04 AM. |

| All three of my yorkies have traits that make us crazy....my oldest will beg to get in our bed, when we try to pick him up he hides under the loveseat. My middle wants to sit in the chair with me and will jump up on the side. When I bend over to pick him up and backs away...go figure. My youngest doesn't want me out of her sight....if she's in the crate with one of the others she's fine...but my herself...she makes such noise!!! I always give them a treat when I put them up....it just takes time and patience. Good luck.... |
