| do all dogs need formal training i just bought a lucky boy he's 16 weeks now. im trying to train him on my own. some days are better than others but i must say he was peepee trained in about 2 weeks after getting him. sometimes he only has half his body on the pad so he misses but he tried . ????? should i keep trying to train him myself or should i take him to puppy training class. he gets to wild when around other people and dogs . i want him to sit quietly. i also want the usual sit,lay roll over stuff. he loves to stand on 2 feet but thats because he's gready and always beggin for food....... any sugg form the lax area? is petco good to use? |

| Hi! I'm from the LA area too. I started Bella at the Petco training but I got side tracked and didnt finish the training. We are going to go back and finish. I think training will be very helpful and Petco seems to have the most affordable prices for training. Good luck with him, he's such a cutie!

| i have always trained my own dogs......... sometimes there are city sponsered training classes and these are cheap too, you will need to make sure that the class is for PUPPIES or SMALL DOGS ONLY.... larger dogs could hurt your baby |

| ok good to know i didnt think of that. there are two hugh pitbulls across the street. lucky is so scared of them but the owner says his boys are very loving and encourages them to be friends. they have a yorkie in their building who gets along great with his pitbulls but the yorkie is 9 years old and weights about 10 pounds so he's the senior of the neighborhood. compared to my boy who is 4 months and 5.6 pounds.......when lucky is in the backyard the big one comes to the gate and just stares at lucky and sniffs him through the gate. when i take him for his walk and the pitbull comes up to him i can tell hes scared because when the dogs stiffs him lucky is very still. i can almost hear him praying to the puppy god. "lord please dont let him eat me, i want to have an afternoon snack not be one". |

| If you know how to do it, you can. I do a lot of my own training but I've been training for awhile. |

| I think all dogs should have some type of obedience training. I NEVER thought this before, but we took Baxter and it was the BEST thing that I've ever done-that was probably the best $100 I ever spent! They don't just teach you how to potty train-that is part of a puppy class though. The majority is behavioral things-sit, no jumping, dropping things they aren't supposed to have, walking correctly, so much stuff. Baxter used to pull on his leash when he walked and it would choke him-he would make the coughing, honking noise. He doesn't pull any longer and he doesn't make the noise either. Training is a good thing! PLUS, the dogs are trained amoungst other dogs which is a great thing. It's one thing for a dog to sit and behave when he is the only one, but when your dog will listen when there are strangers around and other dogs-that's important.
