| I also live in an apartment. I do walk Lola 2 X a day but mostly for exercise. I pad trained her as a puppy and I am so happy I did. She will go outside when walked but I don't have to worry about going down the elevator late at night or in the bad weather. I have heard it is very hard to pad train if your dog has been trained to go outside first but not hard the other way around. When she goes outside it is mostly because she smells. I don't really praise her when she goes outside, only when she goes on the pads. morrislaz |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I just moved from a house to an apartment ....It's a big pain walking because you always have to be on the lookout for other dogs - glass - burrs ...shoot I could go on and on about how stressful it is walking around an apartment complex - but my girls live for their 2 walks a day so we do one before I go to work - and one after i get home. and ps - they were trained to 'go' outside & had their own yard before. I now have pads in the house and fake grass on my patio and they doing VERY good - - So it IS possible to re-train from outside to pads....we did it... but it took about 3 months to be totally 'trained' lots of treats and booty dances did the trick lol |

| I live in a townhome with no yard. I walk Wall-E twice a day- mainly for exercise and fresh air rather than to use the bathroom. I walk him as soon as I wake up in the morning like 6:30am and then again when I get home from work like 7:00pm. I mainly want him to use the puppy pads because I don't expect him to hold in his pee for 8 hours while I'm at work, but I don't want him to feel cooped up in his pen all the time. |

| I take Teddi out before I got to work (about 8:00 am) and she always pees a few times and poops and then she is inside all day (but there is a pad in the dining room) and some times she pees on it and sometimes she doesn't. I also feed her before I leave for work. When I get home I walk her again and she usually pees and poops again. Then right before I got to bed about 11:30 I take her out one more time and she just pees. She sleeps on my bed so once I put her up there she can't get down so she is up there until I am ready to take her out at 8:00 in the morning. The one thing I do LOVE is that if I decide to sleep in she will sleep too (both of my dogs do this). I have a friend who HAS to get up at 5am and take her dog to pee ever day, her dog won't let her sleep in. I would hate that!

| Hi all...... and thank you all so much for sharing. I think i will have to start walking my two 3x's a day from now on instead of 2x's a day. I say this because GiGi has a slight bladder problem that we are treating with Proin 25. She is doing very well on it....but every once in a while she pees on my bed (and you know that means doing all new bedding) without going to the weewee pad. I always leave weewee pads down for them to go if they have to and she usually does use it if she has to go before I get home or before I get up in the morning. I just increased her Proin to 2x's a week and last night she peed on my lap and on my bed. I don't think this is directly related to her bladder prob but I do think that when her bladder is full she tries to hold it as a habit because she thinks she is supposed to. After dinner last night we played roll the ball in the house and they were both getting very excited. I think that triggered the need for her to go and she never went to the weewee pad. After I noticed that she wet my lap a wee bit I put on the weewee pad and she did go.... So any way I am going to get into the habit of walking them about 1/2 hr so hour after dinner. This way she will get into the habit of going before bed time and if she has to go will use the weewee pad. The both of them are really great...they both wait for me to get out of bed before they want to go out... Thanks all again for responding...I though maybe I was the only one walking my 2 two times a day Tina

| We also live in an apt. I walk Doo Doo in the morning and in the middle of the day then again at night. She sleeps in her crate so she has no accidents at night. She had pups 2 weeks ago so the sleeping thing has change from a whelping box back to her crate with her pups. Last night was the first time she didn't sleep in her crate. She cried and cried till I gave in and open the door, she slept out. Early in the morning I woke up to find a present in my dinning area. So here I am visiting the trainig forum. I don't know what I'm gonna do tonight, but hubby already told me if she doesn't want to sleep with babies in crate, then they'll go to the welping box and she'll go into her crate by herself. Note I didn't tell hubby about the present she left in the dinning area. Does anyone have any advice for me? Please!!!!! |

| I just recently moved into a house but have lived in apartments for 5 years. I used to walk Lola about 2-3 times a day. Once in the morning then one or two times in the evening. On days that I was very busy though she would just go on her potty pad inside. I trained her to use the pad at a very young age and I am thankful I did she ALWAYS uses her pad and has never had an accident, which I am so thankful for not having to worry about clean-ups!

| My routine's pretty much like Ronda's(ronlynn). I live in a townhome, no fence. My girls go out 3X's a day. Once in the am anywhere between 8-9AM where they will usually pee & poo..then again when I get home from work, about 5-6. then again at night before bed....they sleep in bed(or nearby)with me and will sleep til I wake up..they won't get up til I do. They have run of the main level and upstairs(basement's blocked off). I do keep 2 pads on the main level and 1 pad upstairs since the youngest, Duchess, at 9 mths still may pee once or twice before i get home on the pads...the other girls are fully trained outside but know if they must go(bad weather, late getting home to take them out, etc.), they can use the pads. I trained them on both for cases when they don't get outside for whatever reason. Good Luck!

Donating YT 11K Club Member | I walk mine about twice a day, sometimes once if it is for a loong time because sometimes i take them to the park in my bike and we stay there a while, but i have pee pads in the house and they go on those, and also go outside. The girls go on the pad 99% of the time, Teddy is the one that has problems sticking to that cause hes a boy but it works out good.

| Diapers have crossed my mind but for now I think I want to get them both in the habit of going in the evening after dinner also. I think it's a lot for them to hold in till the am. They have both been so good but now that I see they both went last night on the 3rd walk I think it is better to train them to go. Since they can not just get up and go to the bathroom I want to give them the chance to go if they have to. I don't like the idea of them struggling to hold it in even if they do succeed. Once they are trained Geigy will go on her weewee pad at night and I can take Pecos right out the front door (only one step) and he will go. It is easy now in the summer but when I start work it will be a little more effort. If in the long run she needs diapers then she will get diapers...but I am still concerned about Pecos cause he would have to be ill to go in doors and he may be struggling at times not to go. Tina

| we take an hour and a half walk in the central park every morning. When the weather is bad then we just walk on the treadmill for about an hour. They are all wee wee pad trained so I don't really have to walk them more than once in the morning and once at night when i get home from work.
