Barking...at other dogs, then hiding behind my legs. Darwin is not a very barky yorkie (thank goodness,) only if someone comes to the door and he barks to tell me that someone's there, or if I drop something and it's really loud and scares him, then we'll hear a couple of barks come out of him. The first day we had him he didn't make a peep all day, and we thought he was deaf/mute! But as the last month has come and gone, he has become more barky esp towards other dogs! His bark is not mean, it's friendly, and I know he's just telling me, 'Mom! There's another dog over there!!' but how can I get him to stop barking at the other dogs? The other dog owners in my apt think he's just a yippy dog, and their dog is sitting there calm as can be, while my Darwin is barking non-stop. This happens when we go out for potty breaks, or on a walk, so I can't really carry a spray bottle with me or a can of pennies on me at all times. Oh, and a lot of times he'll bark, and when the other dog pays him attention, he pees a little bit, then he cowers behind my legs!?! I've been picking him up, making him sit, shuushing him, or telling him "no bark" "quiet!" but he doesn't stop when I do any of this. Does anyone else's pup do this? Darwin is 17 weeks old... |
