| Help..My furbaby is afraid at training class! We are going to our third lesson and she will not take any treats nothing, not carrots cherrrios, hot dogs, cheese etc.She jumps at my legs and tries to escape out the gate,[with me attached to her leash.]There is a rather large Boxer there and it barks, jumps and pulls at its owner the whole time, even though it is at the other side of the room.So mine gets semi calmed down, but not enough to learn anything and the this Boxer barks again and mine gets startled and its back to square one again. The Boxer goes to every class,[this class is offered twice a week] and I really feel I wasted my money. What can I do to calm her down? Or learn something besides Mommy takes me someplace that a big monster barks at me? She likes the other dogs, med size and some what larger. And doesn't seem afraid of them. But this Boxer.... yikes and this is that dogs 2nd time to take the class. What can I do?Help. |

| Just some ideas, can you opt for another class? Or delay till the next class comes? Or perhaps even a refund if you are totally unsatisfied? Or let the trainer know your puppy is not progressing at all because the Boxer is too distractive for her?

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | I agree that you might want to opt to transfer to a different class (or get the boxer to - LOL). Have you talked with the instructor about your concerns? As far as her not learning anything.......I have been told not only by our instructor (Lexie just finished her 3rd week of class today) and by a YT member; most of what the dogs learn, they learn from practicing at home. The classes are more like teaching us how to teach our dogs and most of the dogs learning comes from working with them during the week. Good luck to you..............I hope everything works out for you and your furbaby.

| Speak to the instructor. It sounds like the Boxer is not being handled correctly by his owner. You don't want the class to be a negative. It should be lots of fun! Remi is doing well in Novice class now, although he is not yet off lead (it will probably take ten years to get there). Seriously, the training class should have all of its members respectful of each member's dogs. I would call the instructor beforehand and speak to him or her privately. This, I believe is the best way to solve the problem. The instructor may not be aware of how your pup is traumatized by this particular dog. The owner of the Boxer should be more considerate or may not be aware that she cannot have her dog make eye contact with your pup. Remi's best friends in class, those that she does the long sits or down stays are German Shepherds, Dobermans, Pit Bulls, Labs, etc. Remi is the smallest, really smallest, in class. It will work out for you. If not, find another dog school. Lots of good luck! |

| I agree with what everyone else has said. Speak to the trainer. There was a very loud yapper in our class and it disrupted everyone. By the 3rd week, enough people complained about it and the trainer asked the owner to leave and to sign up for in home training. The trainer tried a lot to calm the other dog down but it was way to hyper. Has your trainer tried to help the boxer's owner? Just go it early next class and talk about it. No sense wasting your money!

| Our humane society has a small dog training class, could you look into that? |

| I would talk to the trainer and see if they have one just for small dogs and see if they will let you change classes. But also its a good ideal if you don't get your dog out in between classes and let them socialize with other dogs. Maybe that would get her use to the ideal of other larger dogs. Sometimes it takes awhile for them to get use to the larger dogs. We have a very social dog but also have a larger dog in our home. But we get out and around other dogs all the time. Its like I almost have to be really concerned if all dogs are friendly with the smaller dogs. As mine want to be friends with everyone. Keep trying and talking to the instructor should give you some solutions. Don't waste your money.
