Hi I just wanted to say that I kind of know what you are going through, it is hard at first to introduce a new little puppy into the house. Tootsie was about 7 months, when we got Teddy, and it was a little overwhelming at first. It's like bringing a new human baby into the house, you don't want to slight the older child in any way, and yet have to pay lots of attention to the new one. Some things have to be changed. I was lucky in one respect, as Tootsie loved to play and so did Teddy, so they chased each other around the house from day one, and they are still doing it. (Lots of energy) And Tootsie was like your Buddy, the center of attention, and the apple of our eye. She did not want to share my husband at all with Teddy, but now she tolerates it. (To a Point) ha ha I was afraid that one day, through jealousy, that they would fight, and I mentioned it to our vet, She said that they will establish themselves who the king pin is, and that one of them has to be the boss, so to speak, and they have. She is not mean to Teddy, just the boss. Well, I'm rambling, but hang in there, everything will fall into place, you'll see, you're doing everything you can for them both. By the way, I still think Buddy is the cutest little dog I have ever seen.I love his smiling little face. Good Luck Janice |
It will work out, I went through the same thing when I got Wicket and Gracie the Jack Russell Terrier had a total melt down, I ended up putting wicket in the a play pen for awhile with his own food and water, blanket and toys. I also tried to make more time for just Gracie. Gracie went as far as too pee on my pillow, carpet, and chew up shoes, she is 3yrs old. she even left home for a few hours right after we got Wicket, but she came back. now 8 mos latter they are the best of friends, she still has her days but all in all she has accepted him. as for as the peeing outside I would take wicket outside with gracie and she actually taught him to go outside, he was also a pup that was not allow outside on grass, they (his breeder) had indoor outdoor carpet on their patio. even now if the grass is wet he will pick up his legs as high as he can so he doesn't have to touch the grass anymore then he has too. Wicket is 4lbs at a year old. |
forgot to tell you this, Gracie and Wicket eat out of the same bowl now. and I still take Gracie out just by herself to play or just go for a walk, that one on one time seems to make a lot of differance in the way she acts. |
Thanks everyone for your encouragement but things are getting worse and worse between Buddy and Lucy!! Buddy has completely withdrawn and stays hid most to time. Normally, he is with me every step of every day!! I have been doing everything I know to help Buddy accept her....all this just completely breaks my heart!!! We met with a trainer, I called Lucy's breeder, I have tried countless ways to help see any improvement and its only getting worse!! Lucy just wants a companion and Buddy wants her to go away!! This has been the longest weekend ever. I have been battling a kidney stone all weekend and also trying to tend to the furbabies. My DH has been an angel trying to take care of me and the furbabies. The kidney stone kinda came and went all weekend but yesterday evening and last night was the worst part!! I finally passed two stones and now I am finally feeling so much better. Physically, I feel better but mentally my heart is breaking over the problems with Buddy and Lucy!!! My DH told me I have some decisions to make for sake of our family!! All of these problems with Buddy & Lucy have brought on MOUNTAINS of stress!!! Due to the problems between them, our entire family is suffering!! I am so mad and disappointment in myself that I cannot fix this problem. I am also very angry with myself for not "testing the waters" before bringing a new furbaby into our home!! I had no idea that Buddy would react this way!! |
I am so sorry Rhonda. I wish i could come over and help. i can feel how bad you want this to work. Buddy may just not want a little puppy around, and might do better with an older yorkie who is more submissive. Have you talked to your breeder about the possibility of returning her? Would you be able to do that and get a full refund since it hasn't been that long? Or would you have to rehome her yourself? I really wish things would work out and everyone will adjust and get along. this is just so hard. :( |

I have contacted her breeder and they are in the process of moving so there is no way they can take her back. It will be up to me to rehome her. Which is fine....this way I can find a perfect home for her. Someone is going to be so lucky to get her!!! She is just so sweet and innocent. I know I have to do something soon. I have the sweetest most wonderful hubby in the world but he is at his wits end. He has seen me cry more this week than he has in the 20 years we have been together!! I imagine I will post a thread about rehoming her soon. I just hope that everyone will try to support and understand my situation. We all love our furbabies so much and would do anything for them but sometimes we have to make "tough love" decisions. I sat in church this morning sobbing....if everyone would of known it was all over my furbabies they would of probably thought I was a crazy lady. I am not a crazy lady just a "Yorkie crazy Mommy"!!!! I remember my heart breaking for MeganS and now I know exactly how she felt. No matter how much you love them sometimes they have to be rehomed for everyone's sake involved!!! |

I am so sorry things are not working out! Please don't think we would think any less of you if you have to rehome Lucy! We all know how heartbreaking this is for you. Wish there was something I could do to help you... :ghug: |
i really wish i could help you out. I know how much you want to keep her and its sad to see a rehoming thread when you know they really don't want to rehome the puppy. I just went back to your first thread about her because i couldn't remember how old she was. Now i see that she is 10 months and 3 lbs. :( I wish i could take her but i cannot afford to purchase $$$ a yorkie right now as much as i want to. at least if i took her you'd always see pictures of her growing up, and you know Morgan would absolutely love having a friend. maybe something will magically happen over night and they will get along. :xfingers::xfingers::xfingers: |
Excellent advice. |
I am so sorry things have not work out, but it is not your fault, who would have thought that Buddy would have acted this way if you had know you would of never got Lucy in the first place. These things happen and they are beyond our control. I wish I was closer so I could help you out in someway. |

anyway glad to hear today was a new day.. I got my first two yorkies, both a couple years old, neither trained.. and I had never had a dog.. so I did it like they were brand new puppies.. and that is where you need to start.. pp pads are ok.. hate them myself, never used them until I got maravilhosa and since she only had one parvo shot and we were going away for a month and a lot of driving I started with pp pads.. well she is now 9 months old.. and she uses them all the time.. now I have a job when we get back up north to try to train her properly..grrrrrrrrrrrr Also do not take away anything from the top dog. let her on the chair with you if you have to.. get both settled in.. also let your hubby try taking her outside as much as he can.. soon she will be more dependant on him.. hence she will be like his dog.. that is what I always try to do.. does not always work but worth a try.. It will take her a good while at 9 months old to adjust.. I mean for both dogs.. but again it is doable.. If you get frustrated send me you phone number by pm and I will call you.. then you will have my phone number... I will help you as much as I can... training her, do so like a brand new baby and make sure you have your alone time with your top dog.. way into him becoming adjusted.. gee down the road your going to say... gee it was not too bad after all...I agree with the others, so just wanted to show support,,not repeat the same ole... puppy hugs to you... |

You will find Lucy a great home and everything will be back to normal again. It will be O.K. :) |
Hope things will work out Hi I was so sorry to hear that you were not feeling well on top of all you are going through. So glad you are feeling better now. How are things going with Buddy and Lucy today? I still think they will improve. Even though my two little guys took to each other right away, there is still some jealousy here and there. Our Vet advised us to do everything for Tootsie first, I guess it is so that she knows she is still very important to us. I think it was good advice, and Teddy accepts that, he just seems to know that his treat is next. My husband takes Tootsie into the family room almost everynight, and they have a ball game, and now, Teddy's starting to join in.This was a gradual thing , though. Maybe Buddy is also sensing that you were not feeling well, and that wasn't helping matters. Now that you are better, could you take him somewhere, and spend time with just him alone? Even for a little car ride. It sounds as though you are trying everything you can, and if things don't work out, don't blame yourself, whatever you decide, will be best for all of you. I'm thinking about you Janice |
ooooh i am so sorry to hear about your weekend (the kidney stone) and then to hear that buddy and lucy are still at odds :( i really really thought he might warm up to her...i just wanted to let you know i am keeping you in my thoughts and hoping that everything will work out for the best! :( |
2 options for you here I am so sorry to hear that Lucy isn't working out. I did see this new YT'er looking for a little girl. She may be just perfect for your little Lucy. She just lives on the other side of Houston from me and Zander's Mom. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=119563 Please let me know if i can help out in any way. I would certainly be willing to foster her until a forever home could be found. My PACK would love having another little sister! :D |
I am at a complete loss of words at the moment....I have been completely touched by two angels that stepped up to help me in ways that NO ONE could ever imagine...two wonderful YT'er "angels" put me in touch with another YT "angel"!!!!!! There is a happy ending to this story that I cannot wait to share with my fellow YT family!!!! All of you are going to be BLOWN away by an act of kindness that two people did to bring all this to a VERY HAPPY ending!!!! I have NEVER seen anything like this in my entire life!!!! My minister preached this past week on random acts of kindness but this one takes the cake!!!! I am very blessed!!!!! Stay tuned!!!!! |
