My yorkie pup is snapping at men

CJ is going to be 1 yr old next month and he is being a little heathen towards men..... he started a couple months back doing it once and awhile. But now it is getting real bad. He like women but guards and growls and barks and snapps at men and their pants and shoes. He acting like he is protecting me from them or something..
Today the repair man showed up. He knocked at the door and Taffy and Baby started barking and heading for the door. As did CJ I picked him up to try and control him ha!!! The litttle stinker tried to snapp at the workman.
SO I popped him on the hinny once and told him NO and put him in his crate for a time out.
I let him out after 10 mins. and I put his leash on him and made him sit of lay down when the guy passed me but I caught CJ trying to lung at the guy pants leg...... I pulled him back and made him go lie down. I then tried feeding him treats when he allowed the guy to go past with out lunging or growling at him we progress up to the guy giving CJ small treats by the time the guy left CJ (still on the leash) just watched the guy.
Am I doing the right thing with him what is the correct way to handle this problem???

Yes, rewarding him for the correct behavior is exactly what you want to do. You can see it was already starting to work in that short amount of time. Now you have to make sure you do this quite a bit. He needs to be socialized more. If you are only doing it sporadically, he will go back to his old ways and it only gets worse with time.

thanks for answering me. I am going to have to take out more around other people and dogs. He barks at anything that moves.
