Yes, rewarding him for the correct behavior is exactly what you want to do. You can see it was already starting to work in that short amount of time. Now you have to make sure you do this quite a bit. He needs to be socialized more. If you are only doing it sporadically, he will go back to his old ways and it only gets worse with time.
