Default Barking

Ok, I've gone through and read a lot of the barking threads on here, and there wasn't much information on what I need to know! The can method or the water bottle won't work for me because the barking problem is when I'm not there. My lovely neighbor came and complained to me yesterday and informed me that he does it A LOT when I'm not home. She also informed me that she knows another lady that got evicted because people complained about her dog barking. I think she was kind of threatening me, but I do need to do something so I don't have any problems. I haven't heard very great reviews of the sound collar or the citronella collar, and Harley is pretty stubborn and persistant, so I think I might need the shock collar. BUT (before everyone attacks me) I want to know what everyone thinks before I go there!

So please, help!

I dont like the use of bark collars but if your facing eviction you gotta do what you gotta do. I would try a citronella one first though. This is why I am so glad I own a house because mine are barkers also

They also have these devices ...

There is no "shocking", "spraying", or collar for your dog to wear. It just emits a high-pitched noise that humans can't hear, but it's annoying to dogs. It works automatically, so it's great for when you're not home.

Yeah, I wish I didn't have to do this. The barking doesn't bother me at all, being that he only does it when I'm gone. Actually, he pretty much NEVER barks when I'm at home, even when some comes to the door! I do have to do something though. Thanks!

Hi,

Harley needs to know that you are coming back. This takes a while but it does work. You need to practice leaving her several times a day. Starting with only for one Min. Just walk out the door don't look at her, don't acknowledge her, close the door stand on the other side and then wait a min. and walk back in. When you walk back in don't acknowledge her or look at her right away. do this several times a day and change it up sometimes put your coat on sometimes have your keys they are very smart and pick up on your habits. Gradually extend the amount of time before you come back in the room. This could take a while but it will work as long as you are consistent. Good luck.

I am sorry I can not help you as far as collars... i am thinking part of the issue may be and I could be wrong but if your life is like most others you are very busy!! Take time out for your dog and walk him or her and play with him or her and get that energy out! When you are with your dog use 2 words and 2 words only for a command and be repititious about it.... NO BARK ! If your dog barks again say NO BARK .. ECT.....

I wish I could inform you of a collar or any other method but I have trained 2 dogs and this is what I have used and it works.. My boy is 7 months old and follows my command...Also I am unaware of the age of your baby but you must start young....

Good Luck

Boy that is a problem. Luckily I'm home during the day because Scooter is the king of barkers. The collars I've seen are pretty big but I've read good things about the Citronella collar. Your neighbor must not have any dogs. Our next door neighbor has a Jack Russell and a Pit Bull. The Jack Russell barks A LOT but the Pit hardly makes a peep. The neighbor in back of us put some sort of crazy device in the tree which is supposed to emit a high pitched sound that prevents the Jack Russell from barking. Sure..... All it does is get on the human's nerves and the dog keeps barking. Good luck, I know your baby misses you and that's probably why he's barking. Gosh Yorkies sure love to bark.

He doesn't bark when I leave either. I've checked by going outside and waiting, and he doesn't bark. I talked to my neighbor for a long time last night, and she told me that he doesn't bark constantly and that he does it at random times for like maybe 10 minutes at the most. I told her I was looking into bark collars for him, so she was happy that I'm at least doing something, so I don't think she will complain, but I do have other neighbors! The only reason I can think of is that when he has to go potty and is trying to let someone know that he needs to go! I know its sad, because he is doing what he is supposed to! But I can't be there ALL the time and he can't go EVERYWHERE with me. He has pee pads, so he has somewhere to go when I am gone.

Default Collars

I was in the same boat as you. My dogs would get in the bay window and pull the blinds down with their nose and bark so loudly I could hear them all the way in the parking lot as if they were behind me. And yes, they do get put up when I am not here, but this would be if I was walking to the car for something and someone was in here. I know if I could hear them at the car, everyone else could around us. The people that lived underneath us moved out, and I have a feeling that my two barking yorkies that bark when someone walks up the stairs or a leaf blows by the wondow plus their new crying baby just didn't work out. So, I really didn't have a choice. We are working on no bark, and it is starting to work, but there had to be an instant solution before anyone else moved in---or out. Even when I left, I could still hear them bark loudly when they put up outside the door- barely, but I could still hear them. It got to the point they were just barking over each other. So, I am totally against shock collars!! However, a friend told me of a family member that had to put one on her yorkie when they went into crowded places. I was so torn, but decided I had to have something that worked, but I didn't want to hurt my babies! So I did buy shock collars. They were nothing like what I thought. They were not too bad at all. I had a horrible picture in mind of my poor dogs crying. They are for small dogs and give a light shock. They only barked once with them on, and that was it. They haven't barked the rest of the day. It has been a lot better. It beeps when it starts to shock them, and I say no bark. I took them off, and no bark is working a lot better, even after just a day. I just wanted to share!!! Good luck!

Default collars

Can you tell me what kind of shock collar you used? I am looking for info for a friend who has a wonderful Yorkie, but is having issues with his neighbors in the apartment building. My sister used what I'm pretty sure was a shock no-bark collar on their coonhound with wonderful results. We use invisible fencing for our dogs (large breeds), and it certainly isn't inhumane. I would much appreciate being directed to a reliable brand of collar, and also hearing more or your experiences. Thank you!

This sounds GREAT!! Where did you get it and how big is it? How much do your dogs weigh? Lily has started to bark constantly if we are on the phone or in the middle of the night and she will not stop for anything!! I don't want to hurt her and I can't find anything that stops her!! She is so LOUD!!LOL
