| my pup pee's all the time is it normal that he pee's about 12 times a day. he makes it on the pad 90% of the time but he's always going pee. im afraid if i crate train him he wont be able to hold it long. he literally pees every 30-60 minutes. have i over-emphasized peeing on his pad so much that he always wants to just so i praise him? sometimes its just a little drop and sometimes its alot. opinions PLEASE!!! |

| How old is your little one? Seems like a lot to me but I am not sure of the age or the size of your dog. The one drop bothers me. I am wondering if there is an infection.

| he is 8 1/2 weeks old and 1 pound 11 ounces. he's tiny. he has a great appetite. he drinks water regularly. i think i exaggerated the "drop" of pee. sometimes he pees like a fountain and sometimes a lesser amount. his routine is sleep, wake, pee/poop, eat, play, pee/poop, sleep. with many pees and a couple of poops. he rarely has an accident. he always makes it on the pads. should i be training him to hold it. i leave his pee pads available to him 24 hours a day, and i haven't crate trained him because i use a play pen. in the play pen i have his pads, his toys, his food/water, and his bed. i always praise him ALOT when i see him pee. could it just be that he wants to so much to get the praise?? thanks for your help!! |

| Oh gosh, he is just a baby and the size of his bladder is so small. I really don't think you should be working on his holding his piddle yet. You should be thrilled if he is going to the pads and continue with your praise and positive training.

| Congratulations on your new baby!! I agree that he is too young to worry about holding his pee. And if he is making it on the pad 90% of the time, you should be partying. And a word of warning - mine are older and soooooo well trained, that I would swear that they can stop mid-stream and finish a few minutes later just in order to get TWO treats out of one pee!

| HAHA yea as yur kid gets older he will slowly be able to hold it longer and longer. From what you are saying he is being a very good boy and you should feel good about everything. My Roxie pees like 8-10 times a day and she is 14 weeks old and holds it all night. Sounds like you are almost to that point. From now on though you will need to start taking him outside every 30 minutes to pee so that he learns that outside is better than inside because when he goes he gets a treat and gets to play. Before you know it he will never use his peepad and always want to go pee outside. once you give a treat for peeing outside though i wouldnt recomend praising him for going on the pee pad. If he goes on the pee pad just say good boy once and let that be that so that he knows that outside is soooo much better than on the pee pad. soon he will be peeing 4-5 times a day outside like my yogi does with no problems at all. |
