| Does the Crate only teach them to hold? If so, then what exactly are they learning, just not to poop in the crate and wait to be taken out? I didnt train Bandit with this method and he learned quickly on the paper and pad, but Bijou is being crated he still has not gotten the idea that poop outside and not inside, he has done it several times still inside, so my question is this, is crating only to teach them to hold, if so, what is teaching them to do it outside if they give no signs they understand this? |

| My Father always told me that a dog will not potty where it sleeps and I know this to be true! Our 2 older Yorkies doesn't every potty in their crate and we got them as young puppies...Now some are stubbern and that is my galahad he still potties some in his @ 20 months old! It think it has to do with his being so stubbern! Now we have female puppies 2 at 8 months old and 1 10 months old, they still have accidents some but they all will learn I know it can be done for Teddy and Tiffanie are trained and 3 years old now and Never potty in their beds!!! I know as soon as I'm up in the morning they are too, so I let them out to potty...Ours is litter box and puppy pad trained and they know to go potty as soon as I get up. Ours is only crated when I can't be in their room with them for a long time or at night, the older our pups get and understand what they can and can't do then none will be crated. So I feel once U get a real routine down and they grow and mature they will not potty. Time is the key...At least I feel. Hope this will help some. |

Time, repetition, praise and rewards. He doesn't understand it yet but by not allowing it to happen in the house when it finally clicks what you want of him, he will know where you want him to go because that's the only place he has been doing it.

Yes, that is what I do it is a huge party when he does it outside and you know what? He will do it and then run to me for yummies LOL. But he still has accidents in the house at least the last week. He is not pooing in the crate thank God. Last night was a nightmare. At 2, 3:45 and 6am he made terrible howling noises and scratching the crate I told my husbadn this is NOT normal for our baby, so i got up and decided to take him to the patio as it is bitter cold and I was not going outside, especially having a fever and flu myself, so I put him on the patio, lo and behold he had diarrhea badly, poor thing, at least he gave us a sign he wantd out of this crate so he has that pat down to knowing it is not allowed in there. Then again couple hours later the same thing, diarrhea again, then at 6 same thing each time I put him on the patio he went instantly and really runny. I know what caused that, I gave him a mixture of organ meats with his kibble he has never had that before ,poor little darling. Now he seems fine again but didnt mess in his crate so that is big plus considering it was diarrhea | |
