| Free Roam? When do you know it's time to let your puppy have free roam of the house? I've had Linus in a little pen for the past 3 months, and he's pretty much potty-trained to go on pads. He's alone while I'm at work, so I really want to let him loose! I'm afraid that if left to his own devices, he will find something bad to do (he's kind of a trouble-maker |

| Before I gave him free reign I'd try penning him in one room, and see how he does. This way if he does have accidents it will only be in the one room. If he does well let him have a bigger space, and so on until he can roam the whole house.

| Yorkiekids, you're absolutely correct. That IS the way to do it. Start with a little bit bigger space than he currently has until you can trust him in a larger room all together and then build it up from there. If you reach a point where you're having accidents again, either you need to let him out more often and make sure he's not distracted so that he's fully eliminating while out, and/or give him less space. Remember that the more active he is, the more frequently he'll have to potty. |

| Gracie is almost 18 months and I still don't let her have free roam when I am not home. It's not the potty accidents that concern me, it is getting into things she should not like the cat toys, tissues, electrical cords etc. It seems even though I think I have Gracie-proofed a room she still finds something to get into!

| I let mine free roam at about 5 months old. He doesn't really chew and will only focus on his own chew toys. I sprayed all the wire chords with Bitter Apple though just to be sure he doesn't chew them up.

| Mine, only if they are potty train, I always keep the eye on them they don't chew cords or anything but if for some reason they are alone even for a short time I keep them gated in the kitchen area where is totally safe for them. |
