| Question about intact male and training... Excuse me if this gets posted twice, my first post seems to have poofed before it got posted. I inquired about a 1 year old male yorkie for sale today, and the owner told me that he is not neutered yet. She also said that is why he's not potty trained, because it's tough with males. This may seem like a silly question, but most of my pets have all been female, so I wouldn't know, but I'm assuming that most are neutered well before a year old, is this correct? And if so, does waiting that long cause lasting behavioral problems? And besides that, is a year old still young enough to be fairly trainable if he has other bad habbits? The other thing I am curious about is that she says he has papers, but that she has an agreement with his breeder to not pass them on. Now, I don't have a clue about breeding and registration rules and agreements. Is this a common thing or is there something fishy about that? I want a pet, so I really couldn't care less about papers, but I do care if she's trying to slip something past me. Oh, I almost forgot, she says the reason she is selling him is because she had intended to breed him, but that he got a little too big for her liking. I assume that is why he is not yet neutered. |

| Just neutered!! Bogey is 22 mths. & got neutered last week. He is pottied trained for outside. He is the love of my life. Sleeps with my husband & me every night. No behavorial problems but he does know who's boss! As far as papers being held, I've never heard of such a thing.

I would ask her if you could contact the breeder to make sure it's ok with her that you purchase the dog and insure her that the lil guy will be nuetered..That would be the only reason for her retaining the papers. Once the dog has been nuetered and you show proof...I'm sure the papers will be retained. The other possibilty would be that this lady has a contract with the breeder that the dog is not to be rehomed without the breeders approval...a quick phone call would clear that up too.

| That would make sense about the papers. When I replied to her email I asked if it would be ok for me to speak to the dog's breeder and maybe vet. I guess if I don't hear back from her that will settle that. |

| Now the case with withholding the papers doesn't guarantee that you won't use the dog for stud....all it guarantees is his pups can't be registered
