take an old tube sock, tie it in a knot, give to dog. wah-la ! instant dog toy LOL
water bottles also make great toys as long as your watching them. also when i can watch morgan i take an old prescription pill bottle, put a few pennies in it, and secure the lid. we play fetch with it. she loves the noise it makes

Buddy got as a gift a crochet ball. It was so adorable but he took it apart like he does everything else. The person hand made it. A "normal" dog would probably have a ball with it.

I used to let Wes have all my empty water bottles, but then when we went to other people's houses, he would steal their water bottles or whine to have them because he thought that all water bottles belonged to him! Such a silly little doggie! If you don't run into this issue, then these are great homemade toys!

Gracie loves water bottles too but we have the same problem. I can't have a full water bottle or sode bottle in my hand without her barking and jumping at me until I give it to her. Now I just keep one in the closet and when I am drinking water out of a bottle I just give her the one I keep in the closet! Seems to work!

I bought those little bottles of water, and when one was empty I put some maccaroni in it and tightend the lid and walla.....play time!
I also made the braid using two colors of fleeceand tied the braid off about 6"from the end. They used to play tug all the time, but they don't anymore. Fact is, they are not playing with any of their toys. They got quite a few new ones for Christmas. I even put all but two away, but they still aren't interested. Kind of sad not to see them play like they did.

I sew some of my own dog toys, you can purchases the squeakers at petsmart. I also like to take the noise boxes out of old beat up toys and make new toys and put them inside, my girls love the toys that make weird animal noises so those toys take a beating and have to be replaced often, lol. When I sew my toys I just prefer to use a very durable type fabric( I like short pile fauf fur and its nice and washable) and I use polyfil stuffing, and then I like to do a double stitch around the edges so the toys dont fray or fall apart.

O thanks for that! I was thinking that I really need to make some wee squeaky toys for Dixie. She likes small soft squeaky toys (the more mouse like the better I think) but they don't have that many here in NZ - we're still very much a big dog country. Now all I need is to find somewhere that sells the squeakers - no petsmart here .

You can take a couple pieces of fleece that are about 10 X 6. Then sew a rectangular shape about 3 X 6 in the center and leave a small opening to stuff it with fiber fill to make a small pillow shape. Also you can place a couple of bells in the center of the fiber fill to make it jingle. Then finish off the opening. After that I cut fringe around the outer edges and they have a nice little toy that is big enough for you to play tug of war with. Something else they really like is the little frisbies that you can get in the party supply areas of most stores. You can get like 6 of them in a package as party gifts for kids birthdays. Or a lid from a small butter bowl also works nice.

We have always made home made sock ropes for our gang.
I just take clean, old socks and knot together very tightly...it makes for HOURS of FREE fun!
