| Mountain climbers! I'm a proud momma tonight! I took my boys on a hike today. Our friend said its an hour so I thought the dogs would love it. Well starting out was all rocks and straight up. I had to let the leashes go because I was holding them back. Turns out my boys are pros! Had I known how tough the hike was I wouldn't have taken them. They did the whole thing by themselves, almost 4 miles! They climbed, jumped, ran ahead and back, stayed with us even off leash! We were all surprised by how well they did! I'll up have to take them again!

| Sounds great - I'll bet they loved it and came home good and tired with good doggie memories. Imagine all the scents they enjoyed!

| They were sooooo cute! To see those tiny dogs, hoping up rocks and running down trails, tails wagging just LOVING it! People were stopping to pet them and could not believe they did the whole thing, esp when I told them what trail we took up (there is an easier one and a harder one and we took the harder one). DH didn't want me to take them because he thought they wouldn't be able to do it and since he never did it before he thought he'd have to do it carrying a dog, but no way! He was so impressed with them! At the end there was a stream, and Fletch didn't want to get out of it (my dogs swim in our pool all summer, all the time, so they love water) he was walking in that stream, drinking, walking, standing still. It was so funny! He was cooling down! They actually were fine the rest of the day also, I let them out to pee at home and they ran around the yard, it was like the hike didn't even phase them. Dexter was so funny too, he probably did the hike 1.5x because he would be ahead with the guys, but he would turn around and come back to me, then go ahead again then turn around again. But by near the end, he didn't come back for me, but he sat and waited on the trail for me to catch up before going ahead with the guys again. LOL I was a little disappointed in myself because I was MUCH slower than the guys. Oh well... we plan to do it multiple more times so I'm sure I'll get better at it. I had fun though, it was hard (in my opinion)!

| Sounds like a blast! I think sometimes people don't give little dogs enough credit. They are usually perfectly capable of hiking just as much, if not more, than a big dog! They are terriers after all! I'm so glad you all had fun! I LOVE hiking with Jackson. We did a 7 mile one last year and he was ready for more, go figure. Not me! Haha I was exhausted! It's great tho, I love coming home and ACTUALLY pooping him out!

I just felt so proud of them, how well they did! They are not spring chickens anymore. They will be 8 years old this Sept. Plus in all honesty they don't get a ton of exercise in the winter, way more in the summer when the pools open because they swim A LOT! So to see them tackle that trail and then to stay with us even off leash was amazing. I thought for sure Fletch would be GONE when we let go of his leash, but he stayed right with us, they made the hike enjoyable for me because I loved watching them go and have fun! Our friend has the nicest chocolate lab who has a ton of energy and all 4 kids (his 2 and his wife's 2) never do anything with this dog, then they are all annoyed with him because he's barking and hyper... I told him to take his dog and he says No way. I don't get it. If mine can do it, his definitely can and it would make the dog a lot better at home if he's tired and properly exercised!

| Well my boys impressed another group of hikers this weekend. We did an easy mountain this weekend, and then a state park.... about 3 miles total. For them, NO PROBLEM! They just wanted to run up and down it, they really made me hike harder because I had to go faster for them! Our friends were very impressed at how good hikers little dogs can be! I just need to get my boys to start going ballistic crazy at every other dog we encounter on the trail. They bark like little mad men! They were so tired last night!

| Happiness IS a day out hiking with your dog And then, at the end of the day, seeing them fast asleep and content....nothing better in my opinion I fully intend to get my girls out on walks EVERYWHERE and cannot wait to take them on holidays with us around the UK So sad about your friend's Labrador not being allowed to join in with family activities....what's the point of having a dog if they don't have fun with you? A walk is made even MORE enjoyable when you have a canine companion or two.....I get SO much enjoyment from seeing THEM enjoying all the new scents and experiences |
