| Cat Toys for Dogs? Baby toys... To date our Yorkie, whom we named Mr. Belvedere has a truck load of toys as I bought a variety of toys to start him off (plush with and without squeakers, rope, rubber). At last count he has somewhere near 30 different kinds but he seems to play exclusively with Kong, Petstages, NylaBone and Puppy Builders (Hippo Mat & Pull n Play Puppy Gym). I've tried buying him other toys but he just doesn't seem interested in them, and most of the time I don't even have treats in the Kongs, he'll just bat it around the floor and follow it. So my post is three-fold. One) What's your yorkie's favorite toy/toy brand. Two) I read somewhere that human baby toys, stuffed and rubber are a good alternative to dog toys. Anyone try it? I bought Mr. Belvedere a bunch of receiving blankets and baby blankets from Target, they're 30"x30" and 30"x40" and they're perfect for the inside of his crate, wrapping him when he's cold and putting on the floor when I give him a messy frozen Kong. Three) I was wondering then about cat toys too. I know a lot of cat toys have catnip in them. I used to give cat toys to my Crested and he never ate the catnip (as far as I know) however Mr Belvedere is 15 pounds lighter than my Crested, anyone try cat toys? The last time we went to Petsmart Mr. Belvedere had to be torn away from this cat toy. I'd love to buy him more cat toys, however I wanted input from other Yorkie owners. I'll ask his vet too, the next time he goes in for his shots . |

| Hello Twinkle's favourite toys are her Nylabone teething keys and a squeaky bone. She's also stolen one of my kids rubber ducks from the bathroom and a plush rattley giraffe - I'm sure they'll be fine for her as long as I keep an eye on her incase she can chew bits off. I use fleecy baby blankets for her to sleep on and wrap her on too and it's been fine. Also, I'm sure I've read on a thread before about some people giving their furbabies cat toys. xxx

♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | Bella has lots of dog toys (plush with sound machines or squeakers inside, dental Nylabones-her fave!, rope toys, etc...), but she has a plush puppy and a puppy that has a sound machine (it barks when you squeeze it) that are both for children. And she has stolen several toys from my cats--mice and a an Audobon bird that used to be on the end of a wand until my cat snatched it off (and had already chewed all the feathers off too, so basically it's just a tiny plush bird). She does love her cat toys!! FYI: she originally stole one of my cats favorite kind of mice--sort of a colored faux leathery one (they're Hartz and come in a pack of 12 or so with 4 different colors from WalMart)--and when she finally chewed it enough, it broke open and had a white powdery stuff inside it. Messy! But, the mice that have a rattle inside have a hard plastic under the outer material, etc... layer (I think I got those at PetsMart, but any of them that rattle are like that) = no mess! Plus, I don't know what the white stuff is, so I didn't want her to ingest any of it. Also, we were visiting my parents who have cats, and she found their round track with a ball that goes around the track (it has a scratcher in the center) and went nuts! The ball lights up with motion, and she chased it round and round. We got her one and save it for special occasions because she chases it round and round and growls and whines at it frantically--we don't want it to totally make her crazy!! But she LOVES it! Here's an example of what I'm talking about: Bergan TurboScratcher Cat Toy and Refill Scratcher - Toys - Cat - PetSmart (You can find them with a ball that lights up, though, but I don't know if that would really matter to her. And we took out the scratcher so we wouldn't have cardboard everywhere.) |

| There are some dog toys, being marketed as dog toys now, that were actually first marketed as baby toys. I have a few on my list of things to buy after we get our GE boxes. I've told my girls I'm not buying anything new until we get our boxes. Some cat toys work. Our cats don't play with toys anymore, so the dogs have claimed their toys. Tea's favorite is a blue ring with a ball in it. The cat or dog bats the ball around in the ring and chases it. I'd post a pic if I could remember what it's called. It actually looks a little like that toy you posted. Tea obsesses over it to the point we have to take it away for a while. I've never tried giving the dogs toys with catnip, but I've heard that some dogs like it. I wouldn't give it to them if they're chewers. Catnip is simply an herb, and it's not harmful to dogs, cats, or anything else. The risk with dogs is that many toys stuffed with catnip are easily chewed up and the dog can ingest it. Cats usually just bat their toys around, while dogs will chew them to pieces. If a dog were to ingest a lot of it, it could cause an intestinal blockage. I wouldn't take a chance on that unless you were there to monitor the dog(s) to make sure the toy wasn't falling to pieces. |

♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | It won't let me attach it!!! I just got out Bella's cat cosmic chaser...or whatever it's called, and she's currently going nuts. I took a little video of her with my cell phone so you could see (and hear) her, but I can't attach it here. If you want to see it, I could email it, otherwise....I guess you'll just have to take it from me. It's hilarious!!! P.S. My boyfriend took it up just now to give her (and us) a breather. Poor little girl....she just can't get that ball out of the track!!! lol |

| Tucker's favorite toys are his rope toy (he loves to play fetch/tug with it) and two cat toys: one is a hedgehog that vibrates when you pull the string and one is a bee with a chirping microchip in it that is motion sensitive. Whenever I see a cat toy I think he might like, I investigate it to see how sturdy it is because I don't want him to destroy it. Of course, I never tell him that the toys are really for cats.

♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | Ok, I figured out how to upload it to YouTube and you can see it there. (It's really dark and not a very good quality image because it was taken with a cell phone, but you get the idea...and turn up your volume because you can hear her!! Lol!!) |

| I have to get one of those. That's not the same one as in the link you posted, is it? It looks like yours lights up. |

♥ love my girls!! ♥ Donating Member | No, it's not the same as the one in the link I posted. Mine does light up....I found one like I have online here: Star Chaser Cat Toy (but they had them at my Petco and Petsmart both a couple of months ago). They also have the replacement light-up balls, so if you find the other kind, you can always find the light-up ball to put in it instead later. (I actually bought mine at a place called Atwoods--it's basically a farming type store--because it was half the price there....like $9.99 instead of $19.99.) |
