| Toy aggressive? Mocha has a bunch of chew toys, but he doesn't really "chew" them. He usually just takes it in his mouth and shakes the heck out of it (by shaking his head side to side). He's not an aggressive dog, but he usually growls when he does this...it actually looks/sounds like he's trying to kill his toys Does anybody else's Yorkie do this as well? Sometimes I worry 'cause he'll fling it around really fast and hard and I'm scared it might put strain his tiny little neck. Is this kind of behaviour with toys safe and normal, or should I try to discourage it as much as possible?

| My boys do this too!!! I'd say its normal, both mine are loving and docile....I just think its how they get their energy/frustration out. BUT when they start showing aggression at each other over a toy, I take the toy away! I actually tell them "if you can't get along, neither of you can have the toy!" LOL I wouldn't worry about it |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Just make sure he doesn't show any aggression toward you or dogs when you try to take the toy away. And by aggression, I mean biting. He may try to play tug of war with you. That's not necessarily bad. If you think it's getting out of hand, start handing the toys out and taking them away each day. You want him to understand that they are your toys, not his.

| My male does this as well - amazing how they still have that rat killing instinct! I just let him play, although frequently I will ask him to "drop it" (once he drops the toy I give him a pat, and toss the toy back) so that the aggressiveness stays in check. He LOVES to play tug of war as well ... I read that that kind of play can make them more aggressive, although asking him to drop it periodically reminds him who is boss and I haven't had any behavioral problems. I think it's pretty normal, and wouldn't worry! |

| Thanks for sharing everyone, it makes me feel much better. I think my subject title may have been a little misleading though I'm not too worried about the aggressiveness, as he doesn't really show aggression towards me or other people. What I was mainly concerned about is that sometimes he gets too crazy with the shaking, and it makes me scared he's going to strain his tiny little neck. He's only 3lbs and has such a tiny neck...whenever he really gets into the toy shaking, it sometimes looks like his neck is going to snap off
