| ![]() I'm new to the forum - hope this reply works! I walk Harley, my 2 lbs. 11 oz. 4 mos. old yorkie a mile every night and play with him throughout the day. He is a very calm little pup, so this seems to be enough for now. He does great on a leash - thanks to many hours of watching Cesar! ![]() |

| ![]() i use to walk my baby all the time! but recently my schedule has changed so we walk sort of late afternoon. but ive been harassed a few times by gardeners outside tending to the lawns in our neighborhood. because of that, i dread going outside now. i know i was really close to talking back and that would probably get me in trouble. i dont want any altercations but its just so embarassing and shameful to walk by with my baby and have these people do that to us. i have no idea what to do; we miss our walks. and i know my wookie thinks hes the lion king; he always growls at them. but i dont want anything to happen to him or me. any advice?? it would be very much appreciated. ![]() |

| ![]() My trainer works long days at Petsmart and said she gets home at 10 p.m. and is usually dog-tired. Sorry. But she has a Newfoundland, a Lab mix and 2 other dogs raring to go! So she sits out on her patio and uses a laser pointer on her privacy fence and the dogs love to chase the light up and down the back yard while she enjoys a well-deserved glass of wine. They get the excercise they need and she gets the winding down she needs. She demonstrated this and the puppies in the class loved it! |

| ![]() Hi there, Harley only get's outside every 2-3 days I live in a huge apartment building with a crazy amount of construction going on in our area, it's just not very safe out there at the moment (on weekends when we're not working we drive him places and play outside for longer periods). Now that being said we have a huge apartment and he's only 3lbs. We do lots of fetch in the house... and my boyfriend will briefly a few times a day play this chase game with him, where he runs back and fourth between rooms crying like an idiot and Harley follows at a mad tear barking at him.. it's priceless to watch. He also has his own room, which is actually the master bedroom, (ok yes I gave my dog the master, it kinda just happened, who needs a huge room to just sleep in anyway right?) So I have tunnels and toys and he has the room to himself in the day time. Then he's free to follow us around the rest of the night. He gets random bursts of energy (which I've heard called Zoomies on here) and that burns most of his energy. It's nothing for me to walk by his room when leaving for work, and him tearing around like a race car... My point being if you can't walk often, or the weather sucks, just make sure the indoor play is more than just sitting on the couch and throwing a ball. I have a hard time keeping weight on Harley cause he's so darn active.

| ![]() I think it depends on energy levels. My dog is fairly calm so most days I walk for about 45 minutes (excluding potty breaks) - 15 min in the morning and 30 min in the evening. Sometimes I'll make the evening walk a little longer if I think she's been cooped up/bored for too long. I take her to the dog park/beach 1-2x a week as well. As far as playing goes, she's moody so sometimes she'll play for 10-15 minutes and sometimes just for 5. I can't get her to play for any longer than 15 minutes! Sometimes I put a treat in my hand and just run around so she can chase me and get tired... but I think I tire out faster than her lol. Last edited by maybeiloveyou; 08-03-2010 at 11:09 AM. |

| ![]() Dante (4 months old, 4.5 pounds) walks 4 miles each morning with his "big brother & sister" (Kerry Blue Terriers), 3 labs, and various other dogs. He loves it, and is still jumping at leash ends, etc., at the end of the walk. But when he sees the car and knows the walk is over, he's ready to get in and curl up! Later in the day we do some outdoor games (fetch the tennis ball in our LARGE fenced yard), swimming in the lake, etc. When the weather gets cooler we'll add more walking in the afternoons in the national forests near here. Right now swimming seems much the better choice! |

| ![]() I feel like I'm dragging Ellie around when I walk since she walks really slow and its hard for her to keep up with my stride on her little legs. She can do a 10 minute walk and shes tired. She always plops down in the grass when she doesn't want to walk anymore and will make me carry her back. Her exercise involves her chasing her toys around, running around the house, jumping up and down on the couches and bed, and jumping into my lap to take short rest breaks. It's so cute when she stands there by my feet begging me to let her sit in the chair with me. She's really good at exercising herself lol. |

| ![]() LOL Sydney does the same thing. When we're out walking, she will lay in the grass. She's excited about going outside, though and we still go for walks. She will also give me the, "Up, up," paws and of course I will carry her or hold her in my lap. lol She's in my lap now as I type this. The running inside and playing is a must to keep her from getting bored. I also take her to visit with my parent's Yorkie Ginger. They both get great exercise chasing one another and wrestling.
