Mocha has started to bite people When someone comes to our door, all three dogs rush to the door. Mocha being the smallest dog (the only yorkie) he always rushes and jumps and growls. Sometimes he'll grab Oreo by the scruff of the neck. Now he tries to bite the persons thigh and has twice succeeded. What am I to do? I'm not taking him to classes. Tonight, I attached his leash and I'm having him follow me around the house. No way can he get near the door with out me. He also has some potty issues. Help.

Well you know that a yorkie is a small dog with a big dogs heart. He thinks he's head of house when it comes to other dogs. He is in charge of protecting you and his other buddies from outsiders. But biting people and children is a no no. A Yorkie's job is to kill nasty rodents He is programed to do this, it is basic to his nature. Before I open a door I make sure that the person on the other side is a friend, if not he is confined elsewhere before I open a door. His heart is in the right place even if the method is wrong. At night if my hubby is out and tries to come in he has to convince my Yorkie that it's ok. He tried to take on a mother raccoon and her babies , but , I was able to call him off. I don't know if this helps but it is nice to chat about our pet babies. Sheila and Toto

What kind of potty issues is he having? And how old is he? Has he been fixed yet? Or is it of a poo nature?

Thanks for replying. I seem to have been ignored for the most part. Mocha was a year old on January 25th and was neutered at 10 months. He is a real sweetie with me, but has a nervous nature and is suspicious of everyone else it seems. I know the biting is just him getting caught up in the excitement of the others barking and being littlest he has to find a his own way of making his presence known. We're working on it. He didn't bite my son's girlfriend today when she came over. The potty issues are ongoing and are both pee and poo. He wakes me up to let him out at night. During the day, he just doesn't seem to care. He uses the dog door along with the other 2 dogs and does do some of his business outside. Infact, he can go days without an accident and then just when I think he's on the upswing I'll find a poo somewhere or the sudden smell of dog pee on the stairs. When we walk him, he never does anything. I have much of the house cordoned off from him so as to limit his access to certain rooms. I think his favourite spot to pee is against the lowest stair-step or against the frame of the bathroom doorway. He's a puzzle to me. I've had 5 dogs over the past 19 years and 1 before that and never had any problems with training them. One previous dog was a yorkie mix and she never had accidents in the house and if left for any length of time would find the tiniest scrap of paper to pee on. He was supposed to be trained when I got him at 9.5 mths but not so, obviously. I originally thought this stage would pass once he adapted to his new surroundings. I was wrong. I am a SAHM so he isn't left on his own for any length of time. I'll never part with him regardless.

Totie also wakes me up about 3 am for a potty break. Because he's so small I get up and we both go. He won't let Dh take him out so it's up to me. The kids weren't this hard to raise or maybe it's because I am older now. I crate him at night but if he gets up I don't bother to put him back so he jumps into bed with us. Could it be that he is only faking it?
