Just beginning the search, help! I just recently decided on the type of dog I'd like, and I'm pretty confident that I will love a toy yorkshire terrier. Need advice! I'm doing research, but what do you think I should know? Also need to find a reputable breeder, preferably in the Niagara Ontario region. Suggestions?

I highly recommend you START with two books that are wonderful and need to be included in your libraby...."Yorkies For Dummies" and "Yorkshire Terriers: A Smart Owners Guide". Get those two books, and read them cover to cover! THEN, start your search for a Yorkie baby!

How to find a Yorkie. Hi My name is Marilyn Faughner and I have had a Yorkie in my home for 30 years. I bought my first 3 but I RESCUED my last 4. Consider RESCUING a Yorkie. There are so many many Yorkies who need homes and people ONLY think of buying them from breeders or petstores. But we have many who need homes NOW. There are many Yorkie Rescues too. Some are in Canada and many are all over the USA. I have my own Yorkie Rescue - Save A Yorkie Rescue. We cover western NY, PA, MD, DE, NJ and a few other states. We have 16 Yorkies RIGHT NOW who need homes. We rarely get puppies into rescue, that's true. But many are adults with wonderful personalities and are wonderful dogs. I just ask you to consider - we have Yorkies who have been vetted and are ready to come home. Please consider rescue. Our website is: www.saveayiorkierescue.org Thank you.

| Thank you Marilyn - I had indeed considered rescuing an adult Yorkie. I had enquired all around me (within 100 miles) for any rescue that had a SILVER Yorkie of any age up to 6 years. No one had a silver Yorkie. I've now decided on and am expecting a Biewer puppy in 3 weeks.

They shut down a puppy mills a couple of months ago and there should be rescues from that. Try the CYTA they have a rescue too.
