| Yes, this happened to Bailey when she was 3 mos old. It was a beautiful faux diamond studded buckle collar. She got the buckle stuck in her mouth - we were right there. Bailey was screaming and wiggling around. I couldn't get the buckle undone, I was freaking out - so hubby grabbed Bailey - I got the scissors - couldn't cut it - so hubby got the buckle undone. From that point forward, I vowed - no more buckle collars - only the snap kind for easy release. And only wear collars when supervised. As a result, she doesn't wear a collar very often. She wears one only when we dress up and go out. The down side is that if she gets lost - with no tags. I hope that never happens - I would just fall apart.

| Great number 1 reason to have furbabies microchipped.

| My Lucy usually wears only a harness when we go walking. I had put a collar on her with her id tag (she is microchipped) and rabies shot tag. We left on a Sunday for about 4 hours. Lucy is small and weighs 3.4 pounds. When we returned home after about 4 hours I noticed that Lucy could not walk. She kept fallng down. I was hysterical. I called to my husband "Help us..Lucy has brain damage. She can't walk." I was ready to make a run to the emergency vet. That was when my husband pointed out that she had her front left foot caught up in the collar. Everytime she tried to walk she fell on her face. I took the collar off and have never put a collar on any of my dogs again. I just hope and pray the day never comes where Alyssa gets lost. It is just not worth taking a chance. Lucy proved that. Alyssa is the only one not microchipped.

| i am aware this is an old thread, but this is something that can happen anytime. my cousin just posted this last week on facebook, this happened to her yorkies twice. I don't put collars on my dogs. they are microchipped. but in case others reading this thread now are, try and get a quick release collar that opens when the animals tugs on it. usually made for cats. |

| I have had this happen to me years ago....I WAS at work and my poor boy had his mouth reapped /wedged with that collar in his mouth like a bridle and bit on a horse....he was exhausted and in serious trouble when I got home and found him....I took ALL collars off that night, and I do NOT use collars at all. I tell all my new owners if they insist on using a collar, NOTHING but a cat collar....they are break away and if something like that happens, the collar will break free with her struggling. Bells can go on halters....I leave NOTHING on them when I am not at home....they can get anything at all, twisted and hung up on any little stupid thing, and they will hang themselves or do serious damage to your baby...... |

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | To many times to mention. Quincy was the worse of the four. I lost count of the amount of collars I wen through with him. Thankfully some were the quick release king other were good leather ones that he got caught in his mouth and managed to chew through some how. You could always try a harness or a cat collar.

| So glad everything is okay. I have heard of that happening before... Riley doesn't wear collars. He wears a harness when we go out and I have his tag with his name and my number on the D-ring. I carry his rabies and dog license tags on my keyring. |

| This happened once to my Jilly and she almost went crazy before I could get it off her. She was getting hysterical before I could finally get the buckle undone - was just about to get the big scissors and cut it off when it finally came free! I was very hesitant to use her collar after that and won't leave a collared dog home alone after that. She hated harnesses and I could never get a fit that she couldn't eventually get out of so she was just collarless and harnessless much of the time after that unless we went outside.
