There are a lot of fabulous breeders locally who care for the health and welfare of the dog you receive. They don't buy in bulk from a foreign country and sell to uneducated people who want a cute little doggy.

is this not a bit of a contradiction in terms.
I do not think that pets should be allowed to be shipped out of country, especially if our countries are supposed to be working on improving animal welfare laws.
It would put nut jobs like this out of business.

I'm so very sorry to hear about this ! I have also been tricked and lied to by Star yorkie :( ! I did not see any of these BEWARE of Star yorkie posts until after she was purchased . I have no clue what my pup is !!!!! Also Korea I had no idea the poor puppies had to make that flight . Ben told me to my face she was bred here in LA . The whole reason I got my puppy from them is because I did not want my puppy to have to fly at all .

I love all animals & it breaks my heart to know they suffer . I do not think anyone knows these puppy's are flying from korea . If you do know , how can you live with yourself ??????? The reason we never buy from a pet stores is because it's obvious they come from puppy mills . But Korean puppy mills . Too much . Star yorkie is tricking people into thinking they are something they are not . They are worse than a pet store . They call themselves breeders . They are not anything but liars and thieves . They do not love yorkies :( They don't even care who they sell to . Disgusting , I can't believe there in biz .

hi everyone....thanx for reading...it is not exciting us you thing...or maybe it is. i got this tiny teacup puppy from a friend of mind about a week ago. since then he was very picky about his food...didnt want to eat much..but since yesterday he started having dahairia and today he didnt want to eat at all and when i forced fed him he also vomited...i called the vet and they say it might be parvo. i cant afford the treatment...or it might be something else but i have other dogs at home and cant keep him here...if you always wanted a yorkie and feel like an adventure call me and you can come pick him up. he is the cutest thing in the world and it breaks my heart to see him like that...if you can help in any other way i will also appriciate it. thanx again for reading. ben for wanka 818-723-1288

i'm afraid the reasoning for your post has me somewhat baffled... are you upset about a sick puppy, or upset about bad publicity for a puppy mill? there are 26 puppies listed (many breeds and mixes) as i type. for small breed dogs with small litters, thats a heck of a lot of brood dogs (sand that is all they could be:()- an extremely upsetting amount to be honest; and i have known of mills do much worse than try to give away a sick puppy- or is it your name and number listed?
just trying to understand a little better!

There IS a law prohibiting the import of pups younger than 6 months!
 

Hi Yorkie Talkers, my name is Gina too and I have spent the last hour and a half enjoying this thread, from way back 2006, 2007 until recently. I was kind of hoping it wouldn't have found closure, especially since I can confirm there IS a law that says you can't import pups younger than 6 months!

Here is a summary of the law from a report done by a researcher for Congress. I have this via Deborah Howard, she is the president (and a lawyer) of C.A.P.S. Companion Animals Protection Society

Puppy Imports; Penalties for AWA Violations
The 2008 farm bill also requires regulations to prohibit imports for resale of dogs unless they are at least six months of age, in good health, and have all necessary vaccinations, with exemptions for research, veterinary treatment, or imports into Hawaii from certain countries. Another section

Only problem is, the USDA still has to implement it in order for it to be able to be applied (whatever that means). They have to set the rules, or something. Another attorney said this law has certainly been effective since September 1, 2011. Only again, nobody has yet enforced it. Who can enforce it...

Either way, there are plenty of puppy brokers who import from Korea and who violate this law!

Wow... I'm glad I didn't get a puppy here. They advertise like crazy online especially if you're from the los angeles area and I've met several yorkie owners who got their puppies from "staryorkie" ehem I mean "star yorkie korean puppy mill". They're definitely making bank off these poor puppies...

Star Yorkie may seem very appealing because of all the celebrity customers but make no mistake they are Puppy Brokers/Importers. With the increase popularity of certain breeds, many importers are shipping in large volumes of puppies from Russia, Hungary, Ukraine, and other surrounding European countries with the sole purpose of making money. A single puppy costs the importer $200 - $350 each which can sell for $1,200 to $3,500 or more here in the United States. A very large profit margin! These puppies are being imported into this country as young as 6 to 8 weeks old. Some puppies do not survive the long trip. Many of these puppies do not meet the AKC breed standard and are often poor specimens of the breed. Even though the puppies are listed as registered under AKC on the Star Yorkie website it refers to their microchip in order to deceive the public. If the person has a lot of puppies and no parents on the premises that is a red flag. They will tell you that they have family over seas that they get their dogs from. It is all a lie. They even made their garage into a kennel which makes it easier to back the truck into. Please do not support this!

I just joined this great forum this afternoon. My wife Linda and I are looking for a good place to read and get information on Yorkies. This forum looks like the best place. We unfortunately almost got scammed by someone posing as an owner of a 12 week old pup... the good news is we figured it out quickly and turned them over to the authorities.

We are hoping to find a good/reliable breeder for a sweet pup here in California that we can trust. Hoping to find a Yorkie, Silkie or perhaps a Morkie. I just learned about them today.

Any suggestions for a good breeder will be greatly appreciated. We live in the SF Bay Area but are willing to travel to find a healthy and happy pup.

Please share photos of all the parents and your facilities to disprove everyone and perhaps the names of the local breeders you use in order for everyone to get the true picture of what you do. Please do not bring god into anything, as someone who doesn't believe in the existence of him Thor or Zeus, I think you should keep your comments about te topic at hand.

I created this account to post because to my horror, I only NOW am researching the Star Yorkie kennel... unfortunately, I have only discovered this informative thread AFTER already purchasing my beautiful baby. She is not a Yorkie, and I will not disclose her breed to keep my identity private. However, I must mention that she is growing EXTREMELY fast. I don't know if she will be a "teacup" size AT ALL. They may have lied about her age because her prospective weight was only supposed to be around 5 lbs... She is already 3 lbs with RAPID growth and not even close to 6 months.

Also, now that I've taken closer looks at the images of the celebrities... Those photos of the celebs are clearly photoshopped!!! I do freelance graphic design, and you can tell they are kind of sketchy by the way the shadows look totally unnatural. I feel like a complete idiot for falling for those photos! I should personally know better... :confused:

Upon visiting the facility, you can clearly see the Yorkie Sire that Ben describes as "Booba" on one of the previous posts on this thread. She is full grown, and wanders around the house. Booba is no "teacup", she is 14 lbs. That already is false advertisement on any of Booba's Yorkie puppies estimated adult size. they will not allow you to the kennels. They also do not show you photos of the parents. They swear that their dogs are AKC, and will send you off with the application form... I am only praying that the AKC will actually accept my dog's paperwork.

After only a few days of having her, I already had to take her into the vet for coughing/sneezing (could it be kennel cough???) and being lethargic (vet said it was hypoglycemia). The vet claims it is from being around other dogs' feces. My poor baby also just started having diarrhea. The vet bill plus antibiotics/meds came out to well over $100... This is totally unacceptable for purchasing her after only a few days! Upon consulting with the kennel on her health, they offered to GIVE me medication... without telling the vet. Um... WHAT?! I really wanted her because she was absolutely adorable and I honestly was sick and tired of going to the pet stores locally to find outrageous prices (yes, even more expensive than Star Yorkie... almost $3,000 for "teacup" puppies at one of the local "puppy boutiques"). I feel so mislead... I love my dog, but I just don't know what to expect of her future health and size.

All of this newfound information ultimately breaks my heart, because I have grown very attached to her... I can't just return her to them... Good God, who knows what they might do to her! :mad:

Well I am one of those annoying find the sliver lining in every cloud type people... So with that being said thank goodness you found this site now and now have an entire Yorkie family no mater what breed your baby is supporting you and helping give guidance.. And by being on her now I am guessing I might have read "teacups" are not really a type more of a way of greedy breeders trying to get you to pay more and if your baby grows bigger that is actually a blessing because the smaller they are the more health problems. So welcome and stick around and regardless of breed ask any and all questions because trust me I can tell you from experience that forum has got the most caring, loving and helpful bunch of people... Just sometimes you need to have thick skin o handle some comments :p

I looked at the site and can't believe how many celebrities purchased pups from them. I wonder if they even took the time to look into what they were really purchasing. I doubt it. Besides, if they have a sick pup, they can easily pay the vet fees.

I'm sure they give the puppies to the celebrities for free as long as they can take their pictures. Celebrities don't pay for anything. When you're rich people give you all kinds of things free but when you're poor you get nothing. Lawmakers are starting to crack down on online puppy mills. One of Star Yorkies main sources of puppies was shut down, Lambriar, Inc.

Oh dear God. That's probably one of the worst arguments I've ever heard. Aside the fact that you waaaayyyy over paid for a mutt, MOST puppies are loving, fairly easy and (to us pet parents ) smart.

Please take the time to learn what a puppy mill is and stop supporting cruelty to animals.

That is very misguided information. Welcome to YT. Puppymill babies are taken from their mommies at very young ages, they are almost always very loving...PLEASE make sure you follow up with your vet and take your pup for regular checkups as they tend to have various issues, not always, but very often.

Stick around YT to learn more about puppymills and why its so important to NOT purchase from byb's and puppymills. Also if you have ANY problems with your pup there are many people here who have a wealth of knowledge AND there is so much good stuff to learn here to. You can find an answer to almost any Yorkie question here!

I hate to burst your bubble but Laddy came from a puppy mill and you could not find a more lovable dog. He knows over 30 tricks and is super smart but would I support these places now that I know what a puppy mill is? NO! Nor would I ever defend them, I just thank the good Lord that Laddy ended up being healthy, because it sure wasn't his breeding that did this. I give all credit for that to lots of answered prayers.

My sincere apologies for bumping up an old thread. I just wanted to thank everyone who posted on this thread. This thread saved me from making a huge mistake that would have cost me thousands of dollars--I was actually considering Star Yorkies! This thread should definitely be made a sticky. I believe on their website they have "over 200 callers a day", and each of these people should know the truth.

What disgusts me is what they put on their website.

6 month FINANCING? Is the puppy a car?
TWO locations?
SHOPPING CART?
"Checkout" your puppy?
SECURE SHOPPING?
ORDERS AND RETURNS?
PRIVACY POLICY?
SHIPPING AND HANDLING?

If this wasn't a yorkie site, I would think it was Amazon!

Another thing that disgusts me when reading through this thread is the amount of people who only have one post that defend Star Yorkie...they all sound the same...it's like a broken record. The owners of Star Yorkie need to accept it and stop making fake accounts! I don't mean to hurt feelings, but it is tacky!
