Kim Balas and mistibleu yorkies - beware!!! It has been bothering me lately and I have been a little torn bc on one hand I love my little boy so much and I wouldn't have him if it weren't for Kim balas, but on the other hand I do feel as though she is not breeding for quality. Her website "mistibleu yorkie", looks good and I spent a lot of time reading the reviews and actually spoke to Kim a few times before paying a deposit and making the 6 hr trip to pick up my boy. I see now that her website is outdated and maybe back in 2008 she did breed quality dogs. But my Frankie was severely malnourished and actually was eating his own poop!! Something that he doesn't do now. Poor boy would shake and scoff his food down like it was his last meal! I feel as though she purposely underfeeds her dogs to keep them at a small weight so she can optimize her profit. He had a bad ear infection also and he broke his leg (which I still believe was due to the malnutrition and possibly a previous injury). Another red flag was when I calledd her to ask about any previous injury to his leg as the break happened a day after I picked him up, she told me that the vet will insist on surgery but to just go with the cheaper option of casting! Which BTW was not even an option as both bones in his forearm were broken and he needed an orthopedic surgeon to place pins and luckily after 12 weeks he is walking perfectly again. The only other option would have been amputation which I was not prepared to do to a 10 month old puppy! So after I paid a hefty price and drive for hrs I had to pay another $2600 plus the 12 weeks of cast changes and X-rays! I guess I'm putting this out there as a warning for anyone else who may come across Kim balas. If you look at her website I also wonder now why all her puppies are over a year old. My boy was very scared and very unsocialized. Which also shows that her dogs are not socialized and probably living in a back room alone with one food bowl to feed who knows how many dogs! And she never ever followed up to see how his surgery went and if he was recovering from his broken leg! What kind of reputable breeder wouldn't check up on an injured baby? Ok rant over!! Plz beware of Kim balas and mistibleu yorkies! Her website is ryorkies.com |
Did you do a search on YT for her name? There are several buyer beware threads on here. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...pstate-ny.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/tri...u-yorkies.html I'm so sorry that you were treated this way from a breeder. There are more posts about her if you do a Google search with her name and YorkieTalk. How is your little guy now? |
I am so sorry but I am glad you baby is doing good now. |
I only found yorkie talk after I was looking for advice on broken legs. I have seen that thread from searching the forums, but I feel as though I needed to post a more recent review. I bought him from Kim in February of this year. He is wonderful thanks for asking!! He's a healthy 4.5 lbs which a is whole lb more than when I got him. He's very fresh and a little over protective of me. So I'm trying to not over baby him as he has been used to special VIP treatment over the past 3 months due to being in a cast and having restricted use of his leg. Even though I paid top dollar for him I still feel as though he was a rescue and he makes it known everyday how much he loves his new life! So to me it's worth every penny. I just hope that there's no future genetic issues that arise. |

I should look into it and I hope that the fact that he has had such a severe leg injury won't affect the coverage. Do you have any recommendations? |

Mistibleau Yorkies ~ Kim Balas I have actually had quite the opposite experience with Kim Balas and Mistibleu Yorkies. I own not one, but three beautiful healthy boys from her. From the time we received our first born AJ, Kim has always been helpful and returned every single one of my calls and emails. My dogs are well adjusted Yorkshire Terriers and range from 3.5-5 pounds. They NEVER seemed as you said malnutritioned, or socially dysfunctional. With every puppy purchase our dogs were neutered and sent with a clean bill of health. She also supplied puppy food and some toys as well. (Special added touch). I am sorry about the unfortunate breaking of your dog's leg, but I find it irresponsible to blatantly post such horrible unfounded accusations about Kim and Mistibleu Yorkies. My husband and I personally picked Ziggy, my third Yorkie up from Kim. The Yorkies were not crated in a small room as you suggested but walked around freely. Her dogs were free fed and I know for a fact that in addition to kibble, she would also feed them boiled chicken. I would buy every single Yorkie or any other dog from her because I know she genuinely cares about the dogs she breeds and puts a lot of blood, sweat and tears into the entire process from conception to the sale of the puppy. I highly recommend Mistibleu and am completely satisfied with the purchase of my THREE dogs. |

Kim balas I got my gorgeous Yorkie Jett from Kim . He is my third Yorkie from three different breeders and she was by far the best! I will get my next Yorkie from her and only her when the time comes . Jett will be 2 in January 2015 . He is adorable , healthy and has the very best disposition. He is friendly , living and a momas boy. He has brought me unending pure joy. Kim was very helpful , pleasant and knowledgeable , she described him perfectly, when I asked about his personality and even sent me a video of him before I bought. And he was most definitely kept in a room with many dogs and only limited food which is how she keeps the weight low. My dog acted like every time he ate it was his last meal and he was eating poop which is a classic sign of malnourishment. How would you know that she fed them boiled chicken? We're you there to witness the feedings? He was not pee pad trained as she stated and she has now up and moved to Florida and no longer neuters or spays the dogs before sale. No reputable breeder would sell their dogs at prime breeding age (1 year old) and not ensure that they will not be bred or have a neuter contract. Like I said Im sure that at one point she was a good breeder but now it seems like she only does it for the income. Not the quality of the bloodline. Also all of her positive feedback or comments on her website are from 2008! No recent good reviews. And when I asked for photos of him when he was a small puppy she said she had none....red flag right there! And no photos of the parents either. |

Grasping at straws I am not the breeder. Would you like to see my driver's license. Please don't assume. Thank you! |

Mistibleu -Kim Balas Kerryn 915 Firstly, if you read up on why dog's eat their poop there is more than just malnourishment as the cause. I have a Yorkie from Kim that is 5 years old and 3.5 pounds and is a healthy eater. Just like humans, their metabolisms are different and they are different sizes. It's not because she starved him that he is tiny. I understand you're distressed about your puppy, but if you had so many "red flags" as you call them, why would you purchase the dog to begin with? And how did your dog break his leg? You never wrote that. Did he just stand up and it broke? As far as I am concerned, this is all hearsay. Like I said before, since I am an animal lover, I am glad your pup is ok, but I still stand behind Mistibleu and Kim Balas. |
Grasping at straws I really don't care what you think, honestly. |

Still grasping... I am not your dear...what proof? I haven't seen any proof. |
and you can't come on hear saying I'm the breeder. So you could believe her, but not believe me. Ok, you make a ton of sense... |
and what I wrote was MY EXPERIENCE, the complete opposite of hers!!!! :) |
Kim Balas mistybleu yorkies I have been reading the posts regarding Kim Balas. I'm a little confused, because if I drove 6 hours to a breeders home, and saw way too many dogs captured in one room with 1 bowl of food, in filthy living conditions, and a puppy that appeared severely malnutritioned, eating poop, unsocialized, dirty, with a ear infection, and extremely fearful, I think I'd have to rethink handing a breeder $1500 for the dog. Btw I have a dog that loves eating poop, and I can assure you it's not from ever bring malnutritioned. In reading your first post, you make several assumptions that I'd like you to substantiate. You indicate that Kim does not breed for quality. How did you arrive at that conclusion? Did you study her pedigrees and discover inferior quality in her lines? You also are accusing her of starving her dogs to make them sound smaller to " optimize her profit." How does selling a 4 lb yorkie that's been starved to 2 lbs, optimize profit? It's doesn't make the dog smaller, it makes the dog a 4 lb skinny dog. Again, if the dog was big and skinny, why did you buy it? You've indicated twice that the dogs leg was broken. I'm going to ask why you'd buy a dog with a broken leg, but I'm not sure you did. It sounds like the dogs leg was broken in your care and you asked Kim's opinion about how to fix it and didn't like the answer. Because Kim suggested casting as an option, that's no red flag! It was a suggestion. The final answer on how to fix it was your decision after speaking with a surgeon. It also sounds like you're furious at Kim because she would foot the bill to get the dog's leg fixed. If you signed a contract, did the contract stipulate that Kim was responsible for a broken leg? I think you want everyone to believe that the dogs broken leg resulted in malnutrition. Legs don't break from malnutrition. Tiny fine bone dogs like yorkies bones break from being dropped, or jumping or falling from a bed, sofa etc. You also make the assumption that the dogs leg was broken from a pre existing injury while in Kim's care. How do you know that? Kim does paper train her dogs. Doesn't it make sense that a puppy living in her home for 10 months using the same area to relieve itself on papers, just might be somewhat confused when its sent to a new, strange home with new owners, and just may have to be retrained to find this papers? I have a Yorkie from Kim. He is spectacular. He is well bred, healthy and happy. He was from the day I got him. I did not go to Kim's home because when I asked for photos and videos, I got them. I saw where and how he lived. I watch him run and play with his brother. When I asked about food, Kim was very upfront about his poor eating habits. It's very common for a Yorkie puppy to be a non-eater. My Yorkie was and she never kept that from me. Instead she told me what she was feeding him to make sure he ate. You're lucky you got a good eater. Him diving into a food bowl is very common. It has nothing to do with being starved. I would be very happy to speak with anyone who's considering buying from Kim Balas. Given the opportunity to purchase from her again, I would do do without hesitation. |

If this is about a tiny there bones can break easily and it may not have anything to do with the breeder. But I also know some breeders that breed tinies will underfeed them to keep them small so that could have been what that breeder did im sure you know better than me what she is capable of. It is always interesting when someone does a negative thread about a breeder how tghese people who had positive experiences just pop up |
I posted because I happened to see the post while reading posts in Yorkie talk. I had to reply because there's no way you can stave or underfeed a dog to keep it from growing in order to keep it small ! OMG! |
