| The rule of thumb for salon (people/groomers) tipping is: yes you tip the 'hairdresser' UNLESS they are the actual salon owner - then no tip for the owner. Now, I don't agree with that, but there are some people who are so fanatic about tipping rules they follow all the rules. Personally, I must admit I don't tip that much but I feel I tip appropriately. I know my one daughter over tips...even for lousy (restaurant) service. I know if a server (which would also equate to a hairdresser, groomer, etc) is rude, flip, or just can't do their job...they don't get any tip. Tips are optional, not obligatory, which I feel some people have forgotten it's a "reward" (if you will) for going above and beyond the job. It originally was given a pittance to the lowly servers who waited on royalty and were 'beneath' their station.

| I totally agree. It was really hard for me to finally find someone who treats my babies so well and grooms them so nicely. I have many many compliments of my dogs and I have also referred a lot of customers to her but unfortunately she does not own the business. I tip at least 15-20% just like I do my own hairdresser. She takes so good care of my babies and they truly trust her. I think that is worth a lot of money.....I do agree though that I don't tip if it is the owner, and it is a service, so if they do a good job, I tip more. | Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Why don't people tip the owner of the salon? I don't understand the reasoning behind this. They are doing the same amount of work on your dog as a groomer who is an employee.

I don't mean the dog grooming salon owner. I was referring to humans. ![]() I had a few experiences where the owner charges 2-3x more than the regular hairdressers and I tried to tip and they told me no need. So I just gave some of the tip to the person shampooing me. | |
