Mom's Temp is 102.5. Is that normal? She is eating, drinking, and going to the bathroom just fine....PLEASE tell me what you think. I hate to disturb them, but if she NEEDS to be checked, that is most important!

No, I wouldn't take the pups, but the vet is about 30 min away, each way. So I'd definitely be gone over an hour, maybe two. It is the closest Vet, so that is why I am torn. I mean, if it would only take a few minutes, I would be more apt to do it....kwim?

I take pups with the mom. My Vet's 20 minutes away and sometimes there's a wait. It makes me feel better that the Vet checks the pups then, too! I think her normal temp should be 101.

Thought I've always read to definitely take the mom and pups in for a check up as soon after whelping as possible to check for retained placentas and/or puppies and to check to see that everyone is well. I'd take them all in...just for peace of mind.

A slightly elevated temperature is normal right after whelping(101-103). Anything over 103 is cause for concern and your vet should be notified. Some vets want to be contacted if the temp is over 102.5

Thank you VERY much for that info! I did call our Vet, when it was at 102.5, and they said as long as it is under 103, she is fine. I took her temp 3 times the first day (because I wasn't 100% sure about the placenta) and after the 102.5, it went to 102.3, and then at night, 101.8. Today it was back in the 101 range, so I think she is doing fine. I really appreciate you addressing my concerns....THANKS!

She is being such an perfect little Mommy. I hate taking them from her to do the Tail and Claw...I have to take the babies from 12:30 to 3:30 according to the Vet, and I think the Mom is going to be devistated. UGH....I am not looking forward to that.

You're very welcome! I'm so glad that she is doing so well. Mom and babies will do just fine when they have to be separated for the short while for the babies to have their dew claws removed and tails docked. My vet only requires that the babies stay away from mom for 1 hour afterwards. I suppose it depends on the procedure your vet uses to dock the tails and also just the differences in vets.
