Need your help...

Two days ago we gave Minnie to a family member. This is her permanent new home. She is 16 months old and weighs 2.35 lbs. We have been feeding our Yorkies Royal Canine Yorkshire Terrier hard food and they usually eat it with no problem.

When we set up Minnie in her new home, we gave them a larger bag of the same food she was eating at home. Well for the last 2 days she has not been eating, she has only been drinking water. So I told them to try to hand feed her the Royal Canine food but she refuses to eat it. So starting last night she was throwing up and today she was throwing up as well.

So I instructed them to feed her some Chicken Baby Food and give her Gatorade in place of water and also give her Nutrical. So she is eating the Chicken baby food now and the Nutrical and drinking Gatorade.

Was she throwing up because she is home sick? Her new family is a young husband and wife without kids and the wife spends allot of time with her. They do not have any other pets.

Any recommendations?

Sorry...I can't give you any real advise...except maybe Minne wants to come live with me instead? :rolleyes:

Awww, she sounds sad and maybe scared. :( Wasn't she used to being around other dogs?? She is probably throwing up because of the acid on her tummy (caused by not eating). She will need time to adjust to her new home, but they do need to make sure she is eating something. She is too small to let her go without something on her tummy. Do they happen to have Nutrical on hand, just in case she might need it?? I think that they should keep offering her what she is used to eating and maybe some boiled chicken. Does Royal Canin make a canned food...maybe this would be an option. Also, maybe they could add a little bit of Karo Syrup to her water.

I wish them luck and hope she can get past her sadness. :(

since she wasn't eating and because she's so small she was probably throwing up bile because her stomach is empty. she needs to eat.

They are giving her Nutrical as well. She is eating the Chicken Baby food now too. Hopefully that helps out. It was a very sad thing for us to part with her too but we had to do it. The good thing is that she is still in our family and we will see her regularly.

I don't know how I missed your latest pictures but she is such an incredible beauty! I don't have any advice but I hope she settles in with her new family and that you are able to still send us updates :)

My best guess is that she is dealing with the change. Taylor, even though he is with US doesn't eat when we first bring him down to Florida, until he settles in, which can be several days. He does the same thing when we take him back north. He also will throw up. He used to both places but it totally upsets him when we make the change. This change that your furbaby has made is even more dramatic than what Taylor has. I'm sure she misses you and the home she's been used to. I'd bet that the adjustment will happen pretty soon, and it sounds like you are doing the right thing as far as feeding.

I believe her symptoms are being caused by homesickness. :( When I left one of my yorkie to sleep over 1 night at my parents in law, they told me she never touched her food even if they hand fed her. She only drank her water. She would also hide under the bed all day. When we came to pick her up, she was so excited to see us and and even ate the kibbles left for her.

I would recommend visiting her as often as you can, even hand feeding her yourself with her new family next to you. Do this process slowly. I think what she needs to know is that you guys are still in her life and where she is now is the best for her too.

Need your help again...

Another thing is now happening with Mini in her new home. She finally started eating her regular dry food a few weeks ago and she has now adapted to the new family.

This morning, I got a call from Mini's new family and they said she is spotting and throwing up. I know spotting means she is on her period but the throwing up part is what I am not sure about. They said she was spotting allot too.

She is 16 months old and she if not fixed yet.

One of the family members is sick too and was vomiting last night. So I am not sure if the family members sickness is related to Mini's vomiting.

Congratulations on your baby. I hate to tell you this but REPUTABLE breeders consider white on yorkies a Birth Defect. There are usually underlying health problems. Look on the Internet under "Why Not White". That's why Yorkies with white (more than 1 inch on chest) are not bred nor shown.

Could you please elaborate on just what specific "birth defects" and "health problems" are associated with the amount of white a yorkie has?

Our white yorkie, Sabrina is not the one spotting, it is one of our regular yorkies that is a normal looking breed yorkie. Sabrina is probably the most healthy one of our bunch.

I would get her to a vet...to ensure she does not have an infection. I have never had one vomit while in heat. When was her last heat cycle? Does the discharge look normal? Have they taken her temp?

After several years of researching Yorkies, I have never obtained any information that the amount of white on a yorkie was an indication of health problems. A white marking greater than 1 inch on the chest is a disqualifying factor that only became effective October 1st of 2007, it had nothing to do with a health problem, only to narrow the boundaries further for what is acceptable to akc standards as far as correct color for this breed, Yorkshire Terriers.....I have seen you post the "why not white" several times and I have yet to find this site other than the breeding of Min.Schnauzers on any search engine. There can be many reputable breeders with respected lines on their Yorkies and still have traits that cross with a same and then according to the standards...a fault...It happens..I am for education on all facts in life when the time and cause call for it..but its getting old on some of these threads with the UUHHH excuse me, but your dog is uh a boo boo, its not quite like the directions say it should be..but mine here is a show dog, cause MY breeder says so.......

Ruben, your babies are very attractive, thanks for sharing. I have wondered how the white looks like at the age of adult, the photo of her 6 months shows all. It is very kind of you to keep posting the photos.

Yesterday, I saw an adv. of sale of yorkie baby in a French site and there is one baby york in white and black, however, the dog holder doesn't sell the black & white one.
