| Puppy to Adult How Do U Know? At what age does a puppy approach adulthood? I was wondering if U breeders could answer this. I have my 6 babies and I'm trying to learn to figure out what coats they will have, Silky or Cotton. I was reading the Breaking Patterns on the fourm here which I printed out and it states about a puppy aproaching adulthood. At what age do U know what kind of coat U're pups will have? Is it before the 12 weeks or after? How do U judge which ones are keepers of U're litter for coats? Can this be done before they go to their forever homes? I know most of U outstanding breeders here will not allow a baby to leave home until they are at least 12 weeks old. So how do U make U're choices of which babies would be good show or pet babies? Any help of this? Hugs, Lee & 10 's |

| Approaching adulthood for me is about 5-6 monthes. It's hard to tell coats as there are so many variables. When I'm looking for a pup that I might want to hold back for show potential I look at topline, tailset, movement, attitude, bite, and earset. I have a gal now who's coat has the look of the dogs coming out of Hungary, even Georgette thought she might have European lines (she doesn't, only Canadian). The problem is she's breaking a bronze toned gold on her head and not silver. This unusual and we're not sure how it will end up. I'm showing her in a match next month to see what the judges think but we'll just have to wait to see what happens with her coat. After you've repeated a breeding several times you learn more what to expect from it.
