| Disinterested male tips? Hi guys, my sister is breeding her maltese. This is her second heat, a beautiful dog. The male is even cuter that she's trying to father the litter with. He's a tiny bit smaller than the would be mom. The problem is this male seems disinterested in her. They both live together, we've tried seperating them today and bringing them back together to no avail. He'll sniff a tiny bit but that is it. There were a couple days back that he tried to mount her. He is 1 year old. We believe her to be ready, she's flagging. Her neutered male surprised my sister and was found tied with her yesterday. I also let my experience male around her and see if she was ready (closely supervised). He felt she was ready. She'd love to have a litter with this lovely boy and will wait a heat if need be. I'm wondering if he's too young, inexperienced. If anyone has any tips for uninterested males or advice, we'd love to hear them. Thanks! Susan |

| Give her a bath. It works for me everytime. He will show no interest and as soon as she is done getting a bath he is on her in seconds. |

| I read about that, we're going to try it tonight, washing him and misting her. Glad it worked for you. I'll let you know how it goes. |

| i used to do that to my kirby. giving him a bath, then he would run around like a mad dog then mount the girl and that was all it takes. but if they seem to get cold and shiver really easy, this may not work.....it is worth a try. also, most males are not ready to stud until they are 1 1/2

| I want to know if the bath works!! We had the oppisite problem here. We wanted to skip this heat with our Lexie as her last 2 litters were of 6 puppies each. Well, while our male, Harley, was in his bed(a wire crate) she backed herself to him and they were tied with the crate between them. I had to hold her so still while tired so that Harley would not get hurt. I wish I would have thought to take a picture, when I tell the story, people don't believe I have such a hussy and stud!! Anyone else have a good breeding experience?

| Well, I went over to help and she was too busy and just decided to let "nature take it's course". That's her motto when she's too lazy. So frustrating, this is my twin, total opposite of myself. I put in all the effort and she just calls me to birth those babies for her. I relay information for the puppies/mom's health. I think this dog may be too young, but I did want to try this before her heat was over. Oh well, thanks for the tips guys. I'll let ya'll know if nature decides do anything.lol |

| I have a male who is now 18 mos old. I wanted to breed him to one of my females when he was just a year and he just didn't seem interested. So I decided to wait another heat cycle. She went into heat again the end of may and was sticking it right in his face for days, knocking him around, flagging him, etc. I knew she was ready but again he just didn't seem interested. So I took her to a breeder friend and paid to have her bred. Bingo! The minute I got her home and he smelled that she was with another, he was ready. I said too bad buddy, and had to separate them for over a week just to make sure he did not get her. I figured as much!!! Oh well I will try the bath idea if next time he seems disinterested. Just thought I'd share!! |
