Panting & contracting My neighbors dog is panting, contracting and nesting right now. She is in the closet. How long does this part last before she should expect the puppies to come? My friend called me for advice & I am looking to you for help. I said I would ask and call her right back.

Did you friend called her vet to let him know about the beginning of contractions ? Sometimes Pug girls need c-section to deliver their puppies .

O NO. She didn't call the vet. He told her if the mom pushes for more than an hour to call him then. I just talked to her on the phone & she said one (puppy) was coming, so would call me back. It's been about 20 minutes & I haven't heard from her yet.

Well, just got off the phone with my friend. Sounds like it was a nightmare. She had one by herself just fine. But screamed bloody murder when delivering it. Then the next one was stuck with a little of it out. Melanie and her husband rushed her to the emergency vet clinic. There they told them they were over reacting and it would come on it's own. After some time it did. I think now it's 3 or 4 am. Then contractions stopped. They then gave her the Oxy stuff and one more was born. Finally at about 7 am this morning Melanie insisted they do a c-section. Two were saved but one was dead. She told them to spay her then. The momma dog is black. The daddy is fawn. Black is dominant and they were hoping that they would get a fawn puppy. Well, the little dead puppy was the fawn boy. Melanie is sick about the whole thing. Also exhausted.

Well, the momma pug is a terrible momma. She has to be held down every two hours to feed the puppies, she's not cleaning them etc. One of the smallest is having to be tube fed. It's strange how some are just not born with the motherly instinct.
