| I haven't taken her in for x-rays yet...still too soon, but I'm anxious to find out. You've already had one x-ray taken? I was afraid more than one xray could possibly hurt the babies. I'm planning on taking her June 11th or 12th. That way they can measure and hopefully make sure she'll have room to deliver.

They were very nice at the hospital. I'm a newbie at this, so it's kind of confusing, when you hear all kinds of things all over the place. They were telling me that it's a good thing that she's having three instead of two or even only one, as is often the case with these small breeds. They said that the fewer babies, the larger they are. Anyways, I hope all goes well for you guys... :-)

| Thank you I hope all goes well for you also. And thanks for letting me know about the 2nd x-ray being okay. I'll check with my Vet since she is so big and see if she needs one now and then again later.

| Hello All, I've been so busy trying to get things done before we have of 2nd batch of doll babies!! I'll post photos tomorrow or Sunday of her, I'm gonna trim her ears, behind, paws and belly 1st. Anyway I posted this further down in this section and thought I'd add it here to see if I can get some answers on it. Anyways... I can't wait, I'm so so excited!!! She didn't go into heat until late...She was due to go in Feb. but didn't go until April. I really thought she was going to skip this heat cycle thinking that maybe by her having her 1st litter it threw her off. She was late last Fall too (We didn't breed in the Fall, skipped a heat to give her a rest, she's rested for a year now!) Well to my suprise here she went. Boy she is different with this litter! She is SO MUCH BIGGER then the 1st litter which was born on May 4, 06. Now she looks like she's gonna pop, she is just layin' around, I thought well she needs to be alone, without her son and hubby, so I put her in the living room with her bed (The 2 boys kept taking all the beds every time Tiffanie got in one they'd root her out and she just let them have it) we have lamaite floors in the kitchen and living room so I put a rug down for her too to lay on, she isn't moving much, don't play, no running now, no jumpin' in the kitchen chairs like she does when she is without puppies, no jumpin' on the couch. I think she's gonna have more then 4 this litter. With each diffrent litter do they act different? Also does their belly hurt when they are growing with puppies? I know ours is uncomfortable when we're going to have a baby!! I know that sounds silly but she is biting on my shoe trays and she has NEVER done this before, she did it to the kitchen and living room one, needless to say as soon as I caught her I put them up. She has Kongs and toys to bite on, blankies and me, we sleep in the same room (Living room) now!! Until the puppies are here and bigger I sleep in the same room with her! Sounds nuts I know but I don't want anything to happen to her or our babies!! I have to wonder if it isn't because her belly is bigger and she hurts more with her filling out so much more then with her 1st litter. With her 1st litter I kept saying she wasn't having any...(She's like 10.5 lbs is her normal weight, when she is without puppies) puppies, (She didin't get as big as she is with this litter) until the week before and I felt them move I told the vet she had gas or babies. I took her to the vet on Sat the vet checked her and said she was going to have 3 or 4 and said no ultrasound or X-Ray and she had them that following Thru. had 4. So what do U all think, could she be having more puppies or just bigger from her last litter. Hugs and Love, Lee, Teddy, Tiffanie and Sir. Galahad |

I haven't read to the end of this post yet, but wanted to respond before I couldn't find this one again! Yes, Rosie also got pregnant her first heat - on accident. She was 10 months old also, and my step daughter (who as 5 at the time) let her out of her crate. I was worried sick about her! But I have never heard anything about giving birth at a young age decreasing their life span - my vet also assured me that all would be well. Due to a very unfortuneate car accident on the way to the vet (because she ran into some problems - she was only 4 lbs at the time and was not birthing the puppies) I was a nervous wreck and we were in a very bad car accident! Long story short (and quite a miracle!) Rosie gave birth to two healthy puppies while I was being rushed to the ER (I wouldn't let the ambulance take me until my vet arrived at the accident scene!) but because of the trauma, Rosie didn't do well with her first litter. So, maybe because she is young she won't necessarily know what to do, but alot will depend on if her mamma was good with her, and how old she was taken away from her mamma. (That is where they learn how to take care of their own babies). Now I will finish reading the post...

| Lots of interesting information out there - I am surprised at the cost of x-rays, etc. elsewhere. I paid approximately $37 for the x-rays and $26 for the office visit. Every time the x-rays have been extremely accurate, and so I have never done the ultrasound. When Rosie had to have a c-section, that cost me $289 for everything. Oh, except the $75 emergency fee that they charge for coming in at 4 a.m. |

They told me yesterday it would cost approximately 700$ for a scheduled c-section, if she needed one... and double that (even up to 2 grand!!!) if it was an emergency operation... I'm praying very very hard everything goes well...!!!

You said she was in heat in April, so she'd be due sometime in June, just like Bo. I would strongly suggest an x-ray, especially if she's so big. Otherwise, how will you know what to look for?

| I definitely agree with getting x-rays - your vet should be able to tell the best time for them to be the most accurate. It is SOO important for so many reasons - mainly as stated above - this way you know how many puppies to expect. In addition, say you have a smaller mamma (4 - 5 lbs pre-pregnancy) and she is only carrying one to two puppies. Well, that would be almost a guarenteed c-section because the puppies are going to be bigger (6 - 7 oz each vs. 4 oz) which makes all the difference in passing through the birth canal. 3 puppies is just about perfect for a small mamma for natural birth, because more than three, and she could become so tired after the third that she just stops pushing, and then you have a problem delivering the 4th. In addition, a good vet will be able to estimate more accurately when the puppies will be born - this is important for those whose mamma's got pregnant accidently. |

Bo was 6lbs pre-pregnancy... and she's having three. The father is 4lbs. I guess(hope?) that would make it "optimum conditions"... Last edited by Dark_Star; 06-02-2007 at 10:11 AM. Reason: typo

| Does anyone know if it is normal for a yorkie to have one pup & not have another one for 8 hrs or more? I can feel another one & she pushes when I rub her tummy for awhile but not enough, she isn't struggling, she went for a walk outside & is loving on her baby. |
