Donating YT 2000 Club Member | DNA done when If there was a possibility of the female having connected with 2 males, when should the DNA be done on potential fathers, mother and puppies? Why would a breeder wait until the pups were almost 11 weeks old? |

| Dna The dam does not need to be DNA'ed unless she has other pups all together and has no clue whose are whose... Most breeders would want to know sooner then later..why they have waited is no clue to me... |

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | I agree, sooner would have been better. Does the testing create any health problems for the puppies--would this be a reason to delay?? |

What if they are not AKC dogs? Last edited by BamaFan121s; 03-18-2007 at 01:59 PM.

| I really can't answer that, since I only register my dogs with AKC and my sires are done way before I use them for stud, usually as pups.

| I was just wondering if there are some other registries that would require a testing method that would warrant waiting until they are older. |

| I don't think other registries are as stringent. But, I'm sure it can be researched pretty easily. Just never needed to.

| It can be done as soon as the puppies are weaned. |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Seems strange that they would wait so long to DNA the pups. If the pups are AKC, when you register the litter, there's some where where you state that you saw the breeding and say that only one male tied with the female (at least on line).

| You are right, .but there have been switches and forging of records, even whelping dates marked incorrectly so that those breeders can sell them off as small ones for bigger prices....or there are those puppy millers that breed and then advertise a puppy, so if you are a potential new family, you weren't there to witness the breeding. Say the breeder is the owner of the stud and dam......I know most breeders wouldn't do these things, but they are done every day

So much goes on out there that its scary and sad. The best we can do is educate the public on what to look for. I know that those things I mentioned aren't easily spotted, but we can educate people on how to spot a good breeder.

I think in this case, the pups a Biewers, and therefore not AKC...that's why I was questioning the methods of other registries.
